Basting Spray--Where do you do it?

Where do you lay your quilt when you use your basting spray? My concern is with overspray? Does it make a mess?

I only have one experience with basting spray...and it wasnt a good one. I dont know if I did it wrong, or used to much spray, or not the right kind of spray. I found it "bled" through to the outside of my fabric and made big sticky spots on my wall hanging.
I will stick with pics...(glass head pins that is...the plastic pins are another disaster story! LOL)

I was making a small project so I covered the table with an old sheet and sprayed, didnt have much of an over spray at all.

It can make a bit of a mess. I have done it on the floor and just mopped up any overspray. Also used the dining table and 409 took care of the little bit of overspray. I don't spray very heavy, just a light mist seems to work for me. But I don't sandwich a quilt until I am ready to start quilting it. I have used pins, I just like spray basting much better and as long as TSA and cutoms here lets me bring it with me I will keep using it.

I have used basting spray on small projects with good results. I agree with Cheryl, using a light spray is best. I have a table I can set up in my basement that I use....a little overspray down there is no problem. Good luck and keep us posted on your experience.

My quilting teacher, who does my quilting for me, uses 505 spray for larger quilts. She says a light spray is all that is needed. I used it for a table runner after I put on a plastic table protector on my table. No problems at all.

I just saw a video from Patsy Thompson Designs using the 505 basting spray. She has a design wall, but I think the steps could be used on any surface. Think I'll try it...can't be any harder than crawling around the floor trying to pin!!!

Re: Basting Spray--Where do you do it?

I use it on every quilt I make. I love it. Quilts that are double or smaller I lay out on my bed and spray lightly. I then pin along the edges just in case I missed anything. If it's bigger then double, I have the quilt quilted by a long arm quilter.

Re: Basting Spray--Where do you do it?

I love the spray it saves so much time! When I do a large quilt I've laid it straight on the carpet to spray it. Honestly though I don't spray right up to the edge, I try to take into account the overspray and hope that takes care of the edges... No problems yet!
To stitch or not to stitch... There is no question.
