    Pattern quest in progress

    Hello friends!

I am busy trying to find patterns I love for my bed quilts. So far this is in the running...

    https://pin.it/WTrY1KS

I really like it , but don't know what the pattern is and where to find it. Do you know?

My finished quilt needs to measure 100 x 95-100. I'm thinking a king size pattern should work. I can't seem to find too many that size. I have 2 layer cakes...1 print and 1 white, and white background fabric. I'd like to keep the quilt from looking too busy and dark. I'd like to find a layer cake pattern if possible.

I'm toying with the idea of doing only blocks on the bottom, like a bed runner, since I was thinking of folding it up during the day at the bottom of the bed, amd originallywanted to make a bed runner. I would do the rest in white and make patchwork pillow cases. I think this would break up some of the busyness and I could leave the bedspread completely on all the time. I do love whole cloth quilts as well. I love my white duvet and just wish it were quilted. Maybe this is the solution! Thoughts??

Something like this but on the bottom...

    Thank you!

I like the idea of blocks along the bottom. I think that would look really nice. I don't recognize the pattern, but I have yet to really make a patterned quilt. I did try a fence rail quilt once or twice. It looks like the fence is on hilly terrain. Hope you find the pattern.

Yes!!!! Oh thank you Fran!! I'm going to order it before I lose it. I usually don't use patterns, but with such a big project (and new units and blocks) I want to let someone else do the math and make sure I have enough fabric before it's sold out!

Here are some more patterns that have a similar look to the one you posted. I see that you ordered the first one but it's always fun to look.

I haven't actually ordered it yet. I contacted the designer and she couldn't give me much more info. I'm still deciding. Those are some cute patterns. Thanks Rhonda!

These are all gorgeous. I would recommend that if you want it for a king-size bed that you make it at least 102x112 (if you don't want to cover portion for your pillows. For a full king you might want to look at 108-112 in size. Since most mattresses now have a 15-18" drop, you want them to at least cover the sides of mattress. I have made about 8 kings for our bed, I rotate by season/mood.

One suggestion if you have a block pattern that you like -- look for a 12 1/2" that finishes at 12". With a 2 1/2" sashing (& optional cornerstones), inner & outer border, it would take 49 blocks or 7x7. If you dont want to have a tuck pillows under you can do a 6 x 7 lay-out -- the 7 across the bed side to side. If you look in my albums or even the recent kindred pinwheels, that's what I use. Easy math.

          Good luck.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.

Thanks Suzanne! I will have a look. The math hurts my tired old brain lol. I am actually doing a queen coverlet. Finished size 100 x 95".

If you are using pre-cuts, be sure to allow extra for shrinkage. You don't want to be disappointed after the first wash with the quilt too small.
