Buckeye Beauty Quilt is Finished! :)

Our quilt guild used this pattern as one of their first block-of-the-month patterns. With HSTs & 4-patches it goes together easily. The blocks are 12". I started this in 2018; the top was finished a long time ago. Just got it quilted this fall. I gave to it to DS this Christmas. It has some of the same fabrics that were in the first, larger quilt I gave him several yrs. ago. It's quilted with Glide trilobal polyester thread; the FMQ was done free hand. It's one of the first FMQ designs I learned. There are other pics in my new album.Buckeye Beauty - Xmas - Dec. 2019 012 - Res.40.jpgBuckeye Beauty - Xmas - Dec. 2019 015 - Res 40.jpgBuckeye Beauty - Xmas - Dec. 2019 019 - Res. 40.jpg Thanks for looking.

Wow, great job Judy. Your quilting is so uniform, and I love that you chose a backing fabric which shows off he quilting.

Very cool. I have a similar one going, but on the diagonal.

          Joy,
This is an amazing quilt!! I hope to get "half" as good as you are doing FMQ!!!!

I hope your DS enjoys the quilt. I find that all handmade items that have been given to me (and to my deceased DH Terry) over the years by Terry's mom & GMA, and of course my Mom, paternal GMA and also my Dad. My mom crocheted but never learned to sew. I remember my dad making my sister and I (we are two years apart in age) our little square dance skirts in the 3rd grade. My dad even made 3 other little girls' skirts for the Square Dance program we had at the school. My dad agreed to make one little girl's skirt because her mom had passed away the summer before we started 3rd grade together. The other two little girls came from huge families that didn't have a lot of money for extras, etc.and my teacher (hearing that my dad made one little girl's skirt asked if he would make two more, and of course he did. Just recently I ran into one of the little girls that my dad make the skirt for, and she told me that she still has that skirt....and that her 2 daughters wore the skirt when they were little. I wish my Dad was alive, he would have loved to have heard what that woman told me!

Anyway, Joy....you are a VERY talented quilter!

          Happy New Year!!! (Almost)

It's a handsome quilt Joy, and the quilting adds so much wonderful texture.

Joy - I love your quilt and colours you chose. I love that orange peel template to create the design on blocks. It's sure to become a favourite.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Re: Buckeye Beauty Quilt is Finished!

Suzanne ~ I quilted this quilt free hand - no templates. That pattern was one of the first ones I learned when I first started FMQ. I needed to make some small tick marks with the Frixion pen as a guideline/reference point in a few places.

I love this. I’ve used that quilting pattern on several quilts but used a ruler. Love that you did this freehand!
