I made a trade for Shriners...what do you think

    topper4.jpgtopper1.jpgtopper2.jpgtopper3.jpgfrontoscraps.jpg
So my daughter in VA called and said a man approached her and wanted to sell some old quilt tops. She asked if I was interested. I told her that I couldn't buy anything but if he wanted to donate I'd be delighted. He didn't want to. Then I told her that I had a couple of quilts I had finished and if he wanted to allow $150 toward his tops I would trade him for the finished quilt he could have his choice of. He chose the one in the picture and brought my daughter 25 hand stitched tops.
I'm thinking this might have been a good trade. What do you think.
These are not great pictues. . The quilts are all about 65x80. I mostly just unfolded them and put them on a table to show you. I think the fabrics look like the 60's. The hand work looks good to me.

I would say you got your money's worth, 25 tops is quite a lot. He also got a good bargain in return. But I think it is a little strange that a random stranger went up to your dau and said do you want to buy some quilt tops, unless there is more to the story?

Sounds like a win win! If I do the math, then each quilt top cost $6. Great work, Terry.

I would say a great deal.

Actually, the quilt I traded was labor, made from scraps and a pieced backing so with batting, probably cost hardly anything!

                  Great Trade, Terry.

Make sure to mark them hand stitched when you sell them for the Shriners.

Once you work your magic on those tops they will be spectacular.

I'm seriously thinking of selling them as is because of the hand work and offering to finish them for an additional donation.what do you think

Terry, you are a master trader! Really well done.

And I like your idea of selling as is with an offer to finish. It's always good to think of ways to support your charity!

Terry i think you a brilliant business woman!!! I have a question...
Do you have any interest in knit or crochet finished items for your Shriner's Project... I have SO many things that i would love to donate for a good cause and have yet to find someone or someplace other than a COA or craft fair... My work (bragging here) is above average and always brings some ooo's and ahhh's... i can send some pictures if you want... no worries if it's not your thing,, just wanted to put the offer out there)) Hugs, GB

There is absolutely nothing I can think of that I would turn down for this charity. The auction is a hodgepodge of new and used items, quilts, guns, yard items etc. Everytime I go to one of my childrens, I rummage thru their goodwill donations and usually bring most of it home. I know we can get a little out of almost anything.
But, Your knitted items are probably exquisite. Not only will I have them for the auction but I have a woman who is going to display handmade items at a heritage festival for me. She has a booth and said she'd be delighted to let me put items there. Bet they will sell there like hotcakes.
