Have a slice of double layer cake?

I finished up this baby quilt I made for a new grandbaby. I had watched Jenny's Double Layer Cake tutorial on YouTube and liked how the quilt went together, but...it was way too big for a baby quilt. Then I thought that I could just "slice" it down and make a smaller quilt using 5" charm packs. Instead of cutting a layer-cake-10"-square into 3.5 and 6.5 pieces, I cut my 5"-charm-square into 1.5 and 3.5 inches wide and then just followed the Jenny's tut. After sewing the first pieces together, I cut those pieces in half at 2.5 inches (half the size of the original 5" block). I was pleased that I could figure out this puzzle using the smaller size. It is really my first completely pieced quilt and am delighted by the results. Thanks, Jenny, for the great tutorial!BabyQuilt MSQC.jpg

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The stash to make a quilt to help me cope,
A quilt to give to comfort those I love in times of hurt, fear and uncertainty.
And the courage to keep on sewing when life itself seems held together by a single thread of hope.

Very pretty! Nice arrangement of the colors. I love the borders, too. Great job!

So cool! It is so pretty! I was thinking that pattern could be cut down from layer cake size, and you proved it could be. Did you use more than one charm pack?

What a wonderful quilt. I love it made with the smaller pieces and also with the white border and the squares in the outer border. The binding really sets everything off. You did a great job! Barb

I too have been busy making baby quilts using the layer cakes and you're right, it's makes up a huge baby quilt. I figured mom AND baby can snuggle together while nursing. But I LOVE the idea of using charms instead and yours turned out lovely. Love your color choices and your outside border using charms. Very nice!! Terrylee from San Jose.
