Laurel Burch Christmas panel quilted to death

I have heard references to quilting something to death, and thought I would take a panel and give it a try. I used 7 whole bobbins free motion quilting this panel. This is a wall quilt and will never be washed so I did not worry about keeping a uniform quilting density, or burying my threads. It was very freeing. It will hang to hide an unattractive area of my fabric storage.

Great job! Lots of quilting! It must be stiff, but for a hanging that is fine.

That's an incredible amount of thread on there! It looks terrific - I think I would hang it up backwards just to admire all the quilting! Fantastic job, Denise.

According to a class I took from Karen McTavish, if you ever intend to have a quilt judged in a show, it must be "quilted to death." She has shown a few where the judges' comments came back with "there was more space here for additional quilting."

The back can be shown too from the looks of it!

Beautiful work. I have to agree, the back is just as beautiful. It must have been a lot of fun quilting it.

Love what you did with this panel. Your stitching is beautiful. I think Laurel Butch would approve.

Oh my! You used 7 bobbins??? That seems like a lot for a wall hanging, how many do you use for an entire quilt?! I don't fmq so this is all kind of interesting to me. I like your wall hanging I think it turned out great.

7 bobbins is a lot for a quilt panel, that is why I consider it quilted to death. I normally use between 6-8 bobbins on a queen size top.
