    Re: Present for my friend....

I spent the afternoon with my friend....she said to tell you gals sorry, she loves her bag and none of you will be getting it!

Cindy, I got that fabric in poundage....they charge $7 a pound and I think you get about three yards for that. I did find a picture of the fabric I actually bought, and she liked the one I mistakenly used much better! That made me happy because mama's making herself a new bag and wallet!! I did save the selvage in case someone wanted to know the name of it, but I don't have it with me right now.

Libby, when they first went over it was because her husband found a job where she was the principal of a private academy. At the time, she was the lead art teacher and Puyallup High School and he was the assistant chief for Auburn PD. He was really the one who wanted to go and she didn't think she stood a chance, but she applied and got the job! The school here agreed she could have a leave of absence for two years and they were going to come home. She had a two year contract in the islands. After a year, the school here told her she had to come back and teach, but because of the contract, she couldn't and she lost her job here, so she retired from the school district. The school over there extended her contract another year and after the third year, she retired. After two years, they started living on the boat, with their Scottie, and on vacations, the sail all over. Fiji, Vanuatu, the outer islands, etc.....I asked her today if they were coming home next summer for good, but he renewed his contract as chief for another year and so I will have to wait another year We probably won't get to spend anytime with them because she is pretty sick with a cold and MM can't be around her. I may go by myself, but he won't be able to.

I can't wait till lunch tomorrow to hear what is going to happen. She got here a week or so ago, her husband arrives tomorrow. They will be leaving January 2. Not sure if MM will get to see them as she is quite sick with a bad cold right now.
I have a cousin who spent his young years on Kwajalein, and my Dad used to go there on business all the time when I was young. It's part of why my parents commissioned a 41' sailboat after all us kids left home, and lived aboard for several years. The South Pacific. Beautiful!

Pat, you always find the best fabric - I really like that. And the neon zippers.

I was going to ask what they did out there. I had a friend living on a boat( I think it was St. Barts ) with her boyfriend. But he was just rich. lol

Thanks Karen. I need to get the pattern. It was the side zipper that I really liked on this one

Hey, Karen. The bread place is Panera. Pantera is a heavy metal band.

Pantere Shoppers Tote. I always want to call it Pantera, after the bread place.

That turned out nice. It does take a lot of fabric. I made the large size and I used webbing as the straps too.

I think it's called the Pantera. I never got the final copy of the pattern after going to the trouble of testing it for the designer, so I'm not certain on the final name. Andrea or Karen might know.

I forgot to mention the zippers on the side panels zip open and close depending how much stuff you need to put in there. There is also a zippered closing across the top. It takes a lot of fabric and since I used the wrong fabric, I did not have enough to make straps from cloth, so I had to use webbing. For the cross body strap, I sewed my scraps together and cut a strip and folded the edges under and sewed it down to the webbing. It looked pretty nice. I had exactly one yard of the outer fabric, which at the time I was cutting thought was odd because I clearly remembered buying 1.5 yards!!
