"Cutting Corners" Baby Quilt is Finished

I used Jenny's tutorial for the "Cutting Corners" pattern. Part way through, I was frustrated with how little of the fabrics showed up in the corners of some of the blocks. Sometimes <1". (See pic #3 where the points come together.) So...I switched to making HSTs for the rest of the blocks. Most of the fabrics were from the "orphan corner" of my LQS. The FQs were only $1.00. I used the left-over strips to make a pieced binding. I like to sew the binding on by machine. Quicker, easier, & more secure than hand sewing. I used one of Angela Walters' FMQ patterns for the triangles. There are more pics in my new album. Lovely quilt and nice to know you've given a purpose to those fabrics from the "orphan corner". They always look so sad don't they...I swear they know they're in the orphan box!

It turned out lovely. Did you use the ruler method with your quilting?

That is a lovely quilt. I like the softness of the colors. As usual, you did a great job with your FMQ.

I like it too. Although, when I made my cutting corners quilt, I didn't notice the pieces like you did. My colors were all very very orphaned though, so they probably showed up more. All your colors look so coordinated...hard to believe they weren't bought specifically for this quilt.

Caroline, I'm not sure what you mean by the "ruler method". I don't use any rulers with my quilting. It was all done free motion, moving the quilt sandwich under the needle. I have a Baby Lock Tiara II LA on a table. I prefer to sit down to quilt rather than stand at a frame, which I really didn't have room for in my home. I made a small mark with the Frixion pen in the centers of the blocks for reference points. I also made small marks along the perimeter of the border. For that I used a regular 12" ruler laid along each of the seams, extending out to the edge of the border. I didn't show the label, but I use the fabric sheets & make a Word doc. & print them on my printer. I usually can get 6-8 labels a page. For this quilt, I used green lettering. On the recent Herringbone quilt, I used purple lettering. Recently I've been playing around with the colored lettering to coordinate with the quilt colors.

"ruler method", not sure if that's the correct term, but here's a link that demonstrates

Your quilting is so beautiful, and the curves so consistent, that I would have thought you must be using this or a similar method. I'm truly envious and strive for that level of skill.
