Part way through my Scrabble quilt for girlfriend

After all these years, I thought to make a quilt for my girlfriend, and two weeks ago she mentioned that she wouldn't really like a 'discworld quilt'. So the beginnings of that quilt has been put aside as a project for myself, and I started working out the Scrabble quilt she requested.
Here is where I am at the moment.
Tomorrow night, I'll turn the 9 squares into at least 3 rows of 3...

I plan to machine embroider the words on the respective squares, and to make tiles using felt for the backing...

but I thought tonight I'd show you all the progress....
    Thanks for looking

I like it! I can't wait to see it finished. And what is a discworld quilt?

That's going to be such a nice quilt. Will there be words on the quilt...maybe your friend's name?

In answer, a Discworld quilt is one that exists in my head, based around one of the characters in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, Esme Weatherwax.

I will possibly machine sew the words "triple word score" - 'double word score - etc on the coloured squares. I plan to make the required tiles for each letter, using calico and brushed cotton, so we can actually use the board... they will be her Christmas present.

The border and back will be burgundy, as per the vintage board we play on. I also have plans to make a version of the tile holders...

I'm a Discworld fan and would love to see Esme in a quilt!

Fun! Those teeny, tiny white strips, though...how wide are they? They look like a challenge.

The squares are 3.5" cut (3" sewn), the white sashing is cut at 3/4 inch, meaning they are 1/4" sewn. I won't be putting a large border on it.. only about 2 or 3 inches, but there will be applique on the back as well..

Holy Moses! I was trying to design a stained glass-ish quilt when I first started quilting, and needed something realllly narrow, but could not fathom a 1/4' finished sashing. I'll have to test it out one of these days and see how it goes. Thanks for the reply.

progress has been made this weekend. Stitching the lettering now. Decided to use my machines functions after all. Have stitched all the words Double and Triple, and during the week will stitch the 60x Word and Score.
