    Spring Meadow Placemats

    Earlier this week I finished this set of six placemats for my daughter-in-love. The fabric line is Stonehenge Spring Meadow, which was out a few years ago. There are no curved seams, as each curved strip is appliqued onto the strip to its left (easy peasy). I debated for awhile on the quilting design, as I didn't want to overpower the fabric designs. I settled on soft curved lines using a walking foot. (Thank you, Preeti!) Here are pictures of two of the six placemats and pictures of the two fabrics used for the backing.

    The pattern I used is called "I Cheat at Curves", which is a free pattern from Craftsy.

    Sylvia, they are lovely. One of these days, I'm going to learn to appliqué.

        Cindy, this applique is very simple. I just laid the one strip over the other and joined them with a small zig zag stitch. I went slowly, too.

                Pretty placemats, Sylvia. So if I understand you correctly, you just place the pieces and begin the machine stitching without any fusing?

                  Yes, that is right. I made three sets, a long time ago, so my memory is a little vague, but I am pretty sure I just pinned the pieces together. I may have use a bit of fabric glue, too! Here is a link to the pattern: http://sewtodaycleantomorrow.blogspo...-patterns.html
