Not quilts, but it is needle and thread.
I bought a few kits here and there and make them while I'm at my Needlecrafters group so I can sit and chat around the other ladies. It's a lot easier to bring this than my sewing machine and stuff.
These are all wool. I had been doing some other penny rugs but used felt from Hobby Lobby. I can now see how nice wool makes the project. So now I'm scouring Goodwill for wool coats and jackets to use since a little wool 8x8 piece is about $8.00! yikes. I had to cut out the pieces for the fish and pinecones projects, the others had precut pieces which is a great help since each of the petals in those flowers are actually four tiny hearts sewn together. Also, I painted/dyed the fish. They are gray wool dyed with red and green Rit dye. I was apprehensive at first and it came out better than I expected!

Why are they called penny rugs? It's an old term for wool work when ladies used scraps of wool and made decorative things for the home. I've heard two theories - one, they used pennies for templates to make circles, and two, they bought the wool pieces for a penny.
