Panel quilt for my niece's baby - pic heavy

This quilt is just a little flannel panel from JoAnn's. The satin-stitching around the owls was already there. All I did was quilt: outline stitched around owls, tree, and large leaves. Then I added the lines in the tree trunk with my even-feed (walking) foot, and did some very wonky fmq'ing around the little leaf groups at the bottom. I made a plastic leaf-shape template and traced around it for the inner (brown) border, and followed the lines on the outer border.
    Thanks for looking! DSCF2531.jpg DSCF2534.jpg DSCF2535.jpg DSCF2539.jpg DSCF2541.jpg

I didn't find out until I got the fabric home why it was on clearance: there was a rip in the outer border. I used some fusible interface on the back, and used one of my decorative stitches to hold it together. Not thrilled, but it's actually almost not noticeable in person.

That turned out cute. I like panels. I still have some in my stash.

        It is adorable!
If you are concerned about the "fix" maybe cutting out a leaf or two, fuse them toward and over the fixes and machine stitch the top one first. Make the back one a little bigger and maybe turn it into a label and hand stitch that one in place. Might be a bit tricky to get two lined up exactly over the tear on each side.

Cute. The extra textures that you quilted really make it pop. And, your tear/fix is not noticeable.

I love panels too and use them a good bit...they make up very nice into small quilts...

I love the quilty job. I probably would have just whacked off that section. LOL
But I like the idea of adding a few leaves to cover it and randomly place others to make it look on purpose. ;-)

I actually thought long and hard about whacking off the torn part, but that would have meant the quilt would have been 4" smaller in both length and width, so I opted for trying to fix it instead.
