    Shoulder relief!

My shoulders and neck were getting sore from being hunched up whenever I sewed. I read that the angle from your upper arm to forearm should be 90* or greater. My machine sits on top of my sewing cabinet, not level with it, and even with a bunch of cushions, I wasn't sitting up high enough. I can't afford a drafting height chair right now, so I went to Target and bought a set of bed risers for under $10. So far, so good!

Here are the risers. They are frequently used by college students for their beds.

Here I am before the risers:

And afterwards. It's probably a bit too high now, but still more comfortable than before:

I use an office chair, I can raise it and lower it as I need. I love it.

If you have the choice between a good set-up or an expensive machine get the set-up first. Our backs are such an important part of our anatomy. Take good care of it. If you can afford it I highly recommend buying a really good quality armless office chair that can be raised or lowered. Consider purchasing a motorized office table that can be raised and lowered. It is so important to sit properly. The expensive machine can wait.

I agree with you and Kensington, Rebecca! When I have the $$ I will get a height-adjustable chair; happily, the company I work for sells them, so I can get one at a really good price. I'm hoping I can even con, I mean, sweet-talk, my guys in the warehouse to assemble it for me. For now, the bed lifts are helping quite a bit, and I'll just keep saving my shekels!
