    Interesting lone star

I've been playing around with the strip pieced methods of making a lone star quilt. I know there was a discussion on whether the lone star should have 5 points ( as in the Texas Lone Star), the quilt pattern has 8 points, as it is usually alone in the center of a quilt, as it usually ends up big. So I've tried making one with 3 strip pieces made of 3 strips each. I wanted to see if I could use the same technique to make it bigger, using 4 pieced strips with 4 strips in each piece. My main reason for experimenting was to see if I could figure out the size of the setting triangles. I got pretty close! Had to trim down one set!

I got on a roll, found another portion of this Big Lots jelly roll In my stash that I had bought a couple of years ago. I really didn't like the colors in this jelly roll but it turned out to be rather attractive as a lone star. I had enough jelly roll strips to make a piano key border, mitered to boot! I kind of like this! Now to get it quilted up!

Great job! You took some rather "not so gorgeous" fabric and made a great quilt top. I love the metered piano key board border. Lemonade from lemons....all the way around. I guess I need to cut mine up into smaller pieces!

It is just a 45 degree angle, very easy to go together. The challenge is you are working with all bias edges, so there is a wonk factor to contend with. I was able to keep that under control, although I did have some edges that needed taming! I think the biggest challenge is not to have fullness in the middle when you assemble all the blocks or you will get a B CUP in the center!
