Picnic blanket - just in time for my birthday!

I picked up my finished picnic blanket -- just in time for my birthday (which is two weeks away). This is essentially one of two quilts I've made without using cream or white for background. The Ohio Stars were made from Vintage Picnic (Bonnie & Camille) charm packs. The background fabric (the red) is Sweetwater Designs. The border is also from Vintage Picnic. The final quilt measures 88 x 88 and it fits my queen size bed perfectly. I did make it with the intention of using it as a picnic blanket, but it could be used as a bed quilt, as well. I'm so pleased with the work that the longarm quilter did on this quilt.

I absolutely LOVE your quilt and the red background is awesome! Which Sweetwater line did the red come from? It's the perfect red - not to bright.

Thank you for your kind words. The red is "Apple Red Mini Snaps" from the Volume II line of fabric, but just about all of their red fabric has the same tone, so you really can't go wrong with any 'red' from Sweetwater.

So pretty. I don't think I could put such a pretty quilt on the ground to be a picnic quilt. Wonderful quilting. It goes so well with the design.

I like the fact that you broke from tradition and used a dark background. I love how it turned out. My husband was looking at a Prairie Flower quilt I am making and said he thought the sashing needed darker colors. Now to get brave enough to go for it.

I too, love this fabric line. Looks fabulous...... too pretty, to put on the ground. Go and get a thrift store, warn out, old one to picnic on.

I've made 2 D9P quilts with this line and a cream background. I LOVE the color background you chose and would have never thought to do that. Your quilt is gorgeous! Nice work!

A gorgeous quilt! I love how the Bonnie and Camille fabrics look all mixed up in the stars, and the background is just right to set them off. You did a fantastic job, and I can see why you want to use it on your bed.
