    For my friend Anna!

My friend Anna is a wonderful actress and singer. She has appeared with many community and professional theatre groups in our city for many years. She does a Patsy Cline cover act, sings as a back up to one of St. Louis's most well known Elvis impersonators. She sang in 3 shows last summer in our summer outdoor show venue, the Muny Opera. Every body in theatre in our town knows Anna!

13 years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was cast as Annie in Annie Get Your Gun. She begged not to be replaced, and somehow made it through the show, fabulous as always, even while going through chemo and radiation. After her treatments were over, she adopted Wonder Woman as an inspiration and symbol, and had WW tattooed on her hip. All has been well since then til last summer, when she started having respiratory problems while singing. It didn't get better and in April, she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It had metastitized from the breast cancer. She is being treated at the Siteman Cancer Center, where cutting edge therapies are available, and is showing improvement and promise for recovery.

Her theatre friends are throwing a big event for her Monday night, a cabaret and silent auction. I offered two of my NCW wallets to the cause, one with Wonder Woman fabric and one with our cherished St. Louis Cardinals fabric. The money will go toward helping her with her medical expenses.

As many NCWs as I've made, you would think they would all be good. But NOOOO! My first WW one was a disaster, and had to be picked apart and redone!

Wonky mess because I put the holes for the twist part in the wrong place! Last thing I do and I mess it up! Last piece of cherished WW fabric I own!

But actually the second attempt turned out great so I was really happy to have had to do it again! Happy to have this done!

    Much better!

Say some prayers for Anna when you think of it, OK?

Prayers go to your friend, Anna. I have had friends who have gone through the same - never easy - and never understand WHY.

Great job, as always. My 50 year old nephew is fighting lung cancer, too, so I know what a fight she is enduring. Just this week on the Today Show they were talking about a treatment for lung cancer that was in the trial stages and they stopped the trials because the results were so good the FDA approved it without further trials. I believe it is the type of treatment that President Carter was given for his cancer.

Definitely saying prayers for Anna. I think your NCWs will be a great hit!

                        Re: For my friend Anna!

Sorry your friend is going through this, Jean. She sounds like a lovely woman. I just found out my friend is having a double mastectomy this coming week. Poor gal is still recovering from a bad break to her foot and now this. Her three daughters will come, consecutively, to take care of her the first three weeks after surgery. I guess I'll be taking over after that. She told me this whole thing could take up to eight months for her to recover. She's planning to have reconstructive surgery so I guess that's why it will take so long. Also, found out my sister may have glaucoma. Glad she's catching it early. Our mom wasn't so lucky. I'm still recovering from diverticulitis. It seems that I was diagnosed with diverticulosis that presented itself at my last colonoscopy. Somehow this did not come across to me so I had no idea. I just messaged my doctor and that's how I found out. I hope it was just an oversight on my part and not the gastroenterologist falling down on the job. Seems like I would've received notice to come in to discuss this. With us being out of the country it's possible I was notified here at the house and the notification never reached me. Trying to give the doctor the benefit of the doubt here. I'm also a bit annoyed that the urgent care doctor didn't go in to more detail about how to eat. From what I can tell I probably should've been on a liquid diet the first few days. How nice to find all this out after the fact. Grrrr.

Jean what a sad and discouraging situation for your friend Anna. Hoping that the clinic will find some treatment that will help her out and I know having you as a friend will keep her spirits up.

Love the wallets for the silent auction. You always do such a good job.
