Self Binding "Grown Up" blanket :)

I've had a stack of fleece for too long, that I've been wanting to use. I made a self binding fleece blanket 76" X 62" - this would be fantastic for a football game because of the double layer of fleece! I can picture it in team colors for your favorite high school or pro team as well... super fast project too! the red is really redder than it shows in the pics.

How fun is that!! I have some Hawaiian fleece and I think I just might take this idea!

I'm glad to see this come up too. Some people get confused about the measurements on making these. The back can be any width for binding coming over to the front as long it's the same on all four sides. Hope I said that right.

I've made several baby blankets this way and love them. So if you want to make a rectangle blanket would you use say for the larger piece 80x60 and the smaller 70x50? Just as long as the difference is 10 inches on each side? Hope I'm asking that right.

Yes, Lori - like Hulamoon said, as long as it is the same on each side, you are good! This one was 10" bigger in the large piece, which made it 5" bigger all around before sewing. The finished border is not quite 2.5" all around. The fleece does have a tiny bit of stretch, so be careful not to tug and pull while you are pinning. Because you can't iron fleece, I used alot of pins to secure before the serpentine stitch. I staggered them parallel to the seam, so they ran alongside of my walking foot and I didn't have to worry about hitting one. Then I just stopped every 8 inches or so and pulled out the pins after I had sewn that part down.
I'm actually thinking of trying one with a 16" difference, so I will end up with about a 4" border in the end - I have a lot of fleece
                  *** Correction to the size - it is 76" X 52" (not 62 - I was tired last night!)

We have a mutual dear friend who lives in Ohio who posted pictures to show EXACTLY how to make the corners and it works EVERY time . . . if you can make a bag you can make a self-binding quilt any size. Right, Dolores?
