Small 4 Patch Posey Wall Hanging Finished!

I finished the quilting and binding today of my first Stack n Whack project! The final size of the wall hanging is 25" x 25". I'm very happy with the results and my experiment trying trapunto in the center block and purple border. It's a little hard to see in the photos but there is a very distinct 3D effect with the extra batting.

I got a little frustrated trying to use quilting stencils on the center block and borders because none of my marking tools would show up on the fabric. I finally gave up and just winged it doing a variety of free motion curly cues and circles. I did not want the quilting to compete with the fabric since there is a lot of metallic thread design in some of the prints so I used a monofilament thread which is close to invisible. I probably would not have used that for a quilt destined to be used and washed, but figured it was ok for a small wall hanging.

I plan to start working soon on the larger quilt with multiple blocks in the same fabrics. Whenever I go fabric shopping now I keep an eye out for prints that look like they might be interesting for a kaleidoscope project!

That turned out great! I can see the purple border standing out some in one of the pictures.

Beautiful! I love the many borders you put on it - really makes the center block turn out. Your choice of colors for all those borders, you certainly have an eye for that. Makes me want to work on the next 2 4 Patch Posie projects I have planned.

Ohhh...Yes Sandy! I may have to get that book! I didn't realize that the One Block Wonders were Kaleidoscope blocks. That's exactly what I want to try out next. I have a fabric now that I think would be perfect for that type of block. Thanks for the link...I will start doing more research on them.

It has turned out well - I haven't tried trapunto but I just might now. Well done.
