    Dad's Ties

My father in law was the greatest man I ever met, except for his son that I married. He passed away about 2 years ago and I absconded with his ties with thoughts of making pillows for my husband and his two brothers out of them, I finished one for DH for Christmas. They were difficult to work with, ended up just doing a weird crazy pattern with no rhyme or reason. Anyone have any suggestions of making it easier to work with the ties?

Since you're always on my mind can you straighten out the mess up there?

I've never worked with ties before. But I have seen a quilt made with them. They were arranged like a Dresden Plate. Like this one. tie quilts - Bing Images

How nice! What a great memory for them! Ties are cut on the bias. So I would just suggest spraying the heck out of them. I did a couple of ties an they take up so much fabric! Not the tie but the way you have to cut them. Pain in the you know what. lol

          It's beautiful

What a great idea. No matter how it comes out, it is such a touching way to remember such a special man. Besides which, it looks distinctive, soft and and nice!

Take a look at my album and see the KS quilt made from men's ties . . .

Beautiful! I have seen a quilt done with ties in a dresden fan, but I really like your pillow better. What a wonderful keepsake.

I love your pillow. I have seen ties used to make Bow Tie blocks and they turned out great. These can be paper pieced, which would give you a little more control over the slippery fabric. I'm sure a Google search would turn up something terrific.

Would fusible interfacing help to stabilize them? I know that helps with t-shirt quilts, so thought it might also help with ties.

I love the pillow! Interfacing would help.

I was going to make the same suggestion about using some heavy duty fusible interfacing, it may make them more stable, and you may need to use a lot of pins to help keep the slipping down. I love the idea, and your pillow is very nice.
