Showing off my first JRR quilt top

I'm going to have to put this one on ice for a couple of weeks while I work on a baby gift. But, I got the top done today, and I am so happy with it, I wanted to share.

I didn't use a jelly roll. I bought an assortment of fat quarters and cut the strips. Because they started as fat quarters, no strip was over 18 inches or so. I set aside at least two from each color and cut those into smaller pieces. I really wanted the colors to jumble up a lot. I had a couple of areas where that didn't work out entirely as hoped, but all in all, I was very happy with the outcome.

This was NOT a "race." It took parts of three evenings - much more than the 2-3 hours others are reporting! But, as quilts go, I have to admit it was fast. Those first couple of seams were killers, though - both to sew and to press. Maybe next time I'll do as some others have and try pressing them all at one time.

This is for my daughter. Her living room furniture is red, and she has throw pillows with oriental designs in additional reds, dark green and gold. I think she'll be pleased.

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The stash to make a quilt to help me cope,
A quilt to give to comfort those I love in times of hurt, fear and uncertainty.
And the courage to keep on sewing when life itself seems held together by a single thread of hope.

Bright and bold. I don't worry about ironing the jelly roll quilt until I have it done as the sewn seams don't meet each other.
