    My first quilt projects

My first attempts at making quilts, I made all of these in December of 2013, wanted my daughter and 4 granddaughters to have them for Christmas. I found a fantastic quilter who made sure I got them done.

Thank you all. They are nice but boy were there challenges but thanks to Jenny's tutorials and the gourmet quilter I managed to get thru it, they were all a big hit. The multicolored patch quilt was made from charm packs, it was my first experience with the charm packs and I was afraid to do anything with them, couldn't cut such pretty fabric. I have since gotten fearless with cutting charm packs and just finished the top for a queen using the disappearing 9 patch design with kansas troubles charm packs, lots of them. The blue snowball was too small for the granddaughter so I made a new quilt for her using the disappearing 9 patch, posted the picture on the projects for 2014 thread.

Love them all, but the black and white really caught my eye. I bet they were all very thrilled!

You have done a great job on all of them! I particularly like the black and white quilt. I usually don't like the black and white combination but that really catches my eye. I look forward to seeing your next projects.

                          Re: My first quilt projects

Such nice comments, thank you all.

Believe me, there were mistakes, many mistakes, I even named one of my quilts the "one big mistake after another quilt" but after the quilting was done it became my favorite, mistakes and all. There just comes a point sometimes when you just throw up your hands and say, "it is what it is" and leave it at that. I'm now a fan of taking a picture of the layout before you sew it together, you can't always see the mistakes in person but they really stick out in a picture.

The blue snowball quilt came out pretty good but, for the life of me, couldn't get the points right on the purple one, I even used Jenny's suggestion of ironing the squares into a triangle beforehand so you have a good stitch line. The dimensional bowtie was so easy to do and went together quickly. My one wish is that I had made the 2 snowballs and the bowtie quilts bigger so I don't have to make more as the kids grow. I already had to make a bigger quilt for the recipient of the blue snowball, it was too small to start with and since I have made her a bigger one, she still won't part with the small one but that's fine, one day she'll have babies and it will be a nice baby quilt.

Fabulous job on those quilts. Especially for your first attempts at a quilter. Keep up the excellent work.
