    Big Lots Jelly Roll

I JRRed one of those Big lot jelly rolls. Because it only had 24 strips, it would have made a very narrow long quilt. So I did not join the last two pieces but instead used it to make a pair of kids sized quilts for Auntiemerns PICU group. They finished 28x30 without border. With border 38x40.

Way cute! I've used a bunch of those JRs for various projects. My Big Lots hasn't renewed their stock and gotten any more in.

It varies from store to store. I have 2 in my area but of course the one I drive near most doesn't carry them.

I think the rolls are like $8 for the 24 strips. And I will say you get what you pay for. Not the best fabric I have ever worked with but they were perfect for this. Nice bright colors. And they were cut fairly straight too. - not sure why my photo loaded upside down :-)

The Big Lots jelly rolls aren't quilt shop quality, more along the lines of Joann's quality. I've used them, washed them and had no problems with them. What they have is limited in choice, but for $7.50 for 24 strips, it's a decent alternative, especially for donation quilts.

                      Re: Big Lots Jelly Roll

I have found matching fabric at Hancocks in their regular quilt cotton collection. It's not very soft fabric,(has a rougher texture) but is serviceable and holds up to washing. I donated one to a foster family and the child that recieved it had digestive problems. Needless to say, the quilt was in the laundry a lot! It was reported to me that the quilt held up just fine.

Spiff. I love them. Thank you so much for thinking of my group when you made these. Can't wait to see them in person.
