    Five memory quilts from clothes.

For a customer I made 5 memory quilts. There were a lot of challenges; mom's clothes, a blue wedding dress from 1958, some berets from dad, childrens dresses, all things they wanted to get into the quilts. One even wanted a star in her quilt. The berets are the little hearts at te back. They have not seen the quilts yet, just photos. Sure hope they like them as much as I do. After the quilts are at their new homes, I will post more pictures in my blog and showcase.

Those are beautiful and will be cherished forever. I was looking at the materials and picking out what would have been from the wedding dress, the berets, and others. I am sure they will love them.

                Wow they are gorgeous!

Is all of the material from clothing or did you have to add some? If all is from clothing, how much did they give you in order to get 5 quilts? Just wondering, since I have some parts of my dads shirts left from making pillows for each of us. Not sure how much fabric I really have left and want to make a quilt for my mom.

Those are such great quilts. A number of years ago my mother-in-law passed away. She was 95. In the early 1970's she found a dress pattern that she liked and had dresses made from the pattern. All the same pattern, but some were fancier, for dressier occasions and some simple gingham. She had 98 or 99 dresses when she left. One of the granddaughters took the dresses and her secretary made a quilt for each child and grandchild. We get together and look at the quilts and say I remember when she wore that dress, and have even been known to pull out the pictures and see her in the dress. I think it is a great tribute.

Lisa, they came with two big suitcases, but I only needed about half of the fabric. I didn't add any other fabric, just clothing.
When you start measuring and cutting, you will see that you don't need that much, to make a quilt. A few good pieces can make a lovely quilt already.
