I turned something ugly into something quiet beautiful :)

I bought a box of mixed fabric from eBay . Some of the fabric was useable but not much of it was pretty .. It's been sitting under the sewing table for over a year .. I have a friend who actually lives in woods in a little home made wood cabin and they are now a little family . A baby boy named Badger has now joined them .. I woke one morning with this epiphany ! All the ' ugly ' fabrics were mostly plaids and tartans .. I sat down at that machine at 6am and began , not knowing where I was going to end up .. This is how the ugly duckling fabrics grew into a beautiful swan lol !
Well ? What ya think ladies ?
My 1st attempt at appliqué also .

I have to remember this when I am faced with a pile of ugly fabric. Fabulous!

            Thank you !
I have to say I think this quilt is going to be one of the best I've made so far .. I have never followed a pattern as of yet .. I like the way I can sit in front of my machine , Vera , and the quilt kind of builds itself .. It starts as an idea , then evolves and grows ..
This is what I love about quilting ..

Mindy it's not ugly fabric at all! I was at the thrift shop the other day looking for shirt plaids and they had nothing. I think it's more than wonderful!

                  Aww thank you Lorie ..
When the fat quarters were folded up in the box they looked sad and ugly and I just closed the lid , sighed and left them .. I'm glad a didn't throw them out though ! Which I've gone to do several times ..
Now I'm eyeing up my hubby's pjs because they are plaid !

                    That turned out very nice!
I've heard that there is no "ugly" fabric. It just hasn't found it's right place. It looks like these finally found their spot!

i was just getting ready to say it matched YOUR slippers.... but you beat me to it.... I think it is so beautiful especially the applique leaves. It just goes to show that something from nothing is a beautiful thing.... in this case a quilt to keep a baby boy warm....I can think of an old story about this very thing.....

KEEP AWAY FROM THE SLIPPERS THOUGH
