Just finished this bag in the nick of time! Heading to Paducah on Wednesday and wanted to have a new tote bag to bring back some goodies. This was a Joan Hawley pattern called "The Summer Tote". I did not follow her pattern exactly but made the bag slightly larger, quilted the front and back covers and outside pockets, decided to try my hand at applique for the first time so created the flowers and vines, made heavy duty reinforced straps and added a few details like decorative stitching and the zipper pull. The bag is very roomy with 8 pockets on the inside and 6 pockets on the outside! It is 18" wide x 13" tall x 6" deep. I could use it as an overnight bag plus it is very strong since I quilted, appliqued and used an interfaced lining. It took me a long time but I really enjoyed making it, especially the applique and would like to play around more with that on some other projects too.
