My cutting table is in a different room than my sewing machine. I made several sizes of "boards" to carry my laid- out quilt pieces to the ironing board & sewing machine. My quilting instructor gave me this idea. She used a square of Masonite. (I tried wood, but it was too heavy.) I cut squares from the sides of cardboard boxes, layered 2 thicknesses, & taped the edges with packaging tape. Then I covered the square with a "pillowcase" of flannel. I pinned together the open end so I can remove it for washing. I have several different sizes, ranging from 9" to 16". I can keep all my block pieces organized on the "board" while I sew them together. I have no space for a design board. These have worked very well for me. JCY
