    My first quilt top

    Mum quilt top.jpg

With apologies for the poor quality of the photograph (had to take it on my mobile phone) I'd like to share with you my very first quilt top. I followed Jenny's tutorial for the Garden of Eden quilt and used a charm pack and jelly roll from Moda - Lovely by Sandy Gervais.

Now comes the scary part - the quiliting

I'm making this quilt for my mum, who was due to go into hospital last week, but her operation has now been postponed. I'm hoping to get this finished by her birthday on 8th May which may be a little ambitious as I've never quilted anything before. I'm finding lots of great tutorials and help on the forum and on you tube and will try and get a LOT of practice in before I start

That is soooo pretty! Your mom will love it!
I just made a quilt using that very same pattern and just used a walking foot and stitched in the ditch. It was surprisingly easy and turned out so nice - you can do it!

To quilt or not to quilt?.....what a ridiculous question!

Sandra, that is a lovely quilt. You did a wonderful job. It will make your mum feel warm and special. I like Marebear's idea of just stitching in the ditch. Sounds easiest and it will put the lovely box pattern on the back. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do great. Show us the fiinished quilt.

You know you've had too much coffee when you can thread a sewing machine while it's running.
