    Traditional Pineapple - First Block

I have almost completed the first block of a traditional Pineapple quilt. I didn't get quite through with it needing to put another round on it before making it a square. For the center, I used some fabric I had. I am using a white jelly roll for the white. For the rest of the colors, I am using the fabric I had recently dyed. For each block, I plan on using different dyed fabric so it will be scrappy looking. It will be 30 blocks big, and I have the other 29 centers already done. It's going to take me awhile!

You dyed this yourself? What a beautiful color combo. The pineapple is one of my favorites. Can't wait to see more blocks!

That looks great! I love how your hand dyed fabrics turned out.

I have always admired the pineapple blocks - are they hard to do?

I bought the Creative Grids Pineapple Trim Tool, and that is making it easy. The hardest part is which way to turn it for each round. Since I bought it, I've seen videos where they use a regular ruler, and that really doesn't seem hard to do, so a special ruler isn't really necessary. I like the way my fabric came out, too. Not bad for a newbie dyer.

It isn't hard to die fabric. I took the Craftsy class called The Art of Fabric Dyeing. It was a great class to take. I then had to order a bunch of dye and fabric, so there is an expense involved. I guess in the back of my mind, I had this quilt in mind, and I'm sure I'll be using it in others.

I love this block! I took a class a few months ago on making a pineapple block. It came with a couple small templates. My sample block turned out beautiful, but I think I want to make bigger blocks for a quilt because it's so time consuming, and bigger blocks would go faster. Your fabrics turned out so pretty!
