    Crazy for a crazy quilt

    Hey ladies,

I have not been on here that much lately. I have been relaxing since Christmas. I did start making a crazy quilt, a special request from hubby.

I found an old guide for one in a Mcalls mag where they made large squares, so I cut 20 inch blocks out of muslin and pulled out my scraps. I am not piecing, just sewing. I plan on going big, so I am sewing pretty stitches on top of these pieces to secure them and will prob stitch in the ditch of the big square and tie off the block in center points to sammich it. Hubby researched and found a great way to put some weight to it is to use denim jeans as a batting. I have been wanting to make a denim crazy quilt and fray some edges..and thought maybe I would make that as the back. But decided to use stained and painted 'junky' jeans to line it.

We decided on 5 blocks across and maybe 6 down. I have a Cali king to cover. We will see how it goes!!

            Looks great!

Wow, a Cali-king batted or backed in denim? That is going to be one heavy quilt. My washing machine would die. Actually I've lost two machines that way when my daughter stuffed them too full. Funny how that stopped when I told her that she was paying for the next machine.

Great point.. At some point we did discuss it 'not fitting ' in the washer.. Something to consider!

Most laundromats have extra large sized washers, if you can stand hanging out there while the quilt is washing. We have really strange laundromats with some rather seedy looking people in them around here. The little town I lived in in Texas, everyone used to go to the laundromat to dance on Friday nights. It was pretty fun to see.

I love your blocks! What I like in particular is that the center part isn't just one big piece but a combination of pieces. I made a king quilt, and they are right about how to wash it. The Laundromat with the giant washer is the way to go.
