Baby Quilt for my Great Nephew

    IMG_2684.jpgIMG_2686.jpgIMG_2685.jpgIMG_2687.jpg

I paper-pieced these trains for my newest great nephew born in January. The stars were super easy to make. They are done with nothing but half-square triangles. I used my walking foot to machine quilt it. I used clear thread in the needle and light blue thread in the bobbin. I'm really pleased with how puffy it came out after washing and drying it in the dryer. Really makes the quilting stand out. On the back will be the baby's birth info. along with "Created by Aunt Rebecca" that I embroidered with my embroidery machine. I'll hand sew it to the back of the quilt. Most of the time, I embroider directly on the backing. This time I'm applying it separately and will border it with the green fabric to make it look like another block.

Rebecca, this quilt is just lovely. The colors are great and the trains are so cute. I love the stars. I think my next lesson will have to learn what paper piecing is. I see it allot but don't know what it is. Great job, thanks for sharing.

Love it, Rebecca. Great job. I am really partial to trains but don't have any grandsons so trains are not in my future quilting plans.

It's a beautiful quilt Rebecca! Your color choices are perfect and trains are just perfect for a baby boy as they keep loving trains as they get older. I always get stuck on the labels as I don't have an embroidery machine. I may have to keep my eyes open for a used one!
Thanks for sharing your adorable quilt with all of us!

              Nancy,

Paper-piecing is super fun. I haven't looked yet but I would imagine there are some tuts on U-tube. I haven't done any large projects by this method but only smaller ones. Years ago a friend invited a very small group of us to join her for some quilt building at her house. She was the person who introduced me to paper-piecing. My next project is going to be a barn quilt and I have a darling pattern for a farmhouse. However, I am bound and determined to finish all the projects that I've got pending before I start anything new.

Thanks for your lovely comments everyone.

              Rebecca

If I ever make another one, I'd love to do it in red and black. I think it would be so cute with black trains and red stars and plaid sashing and borders? These are the colors the mother chose to match his room.

                    Patticakes,

Do you have decorative stitches and an alphabet on your sewing machine? If "sew," use some stabilizer and give that a try.

Rebecca - very nice job. The color's are super great. I know your Great Nephew will thoroughly enjoy it. I hope his mother puts it up when he outgrows it so he can give it to his son when he has one. Again Great Job.
