    My first quilt

My mum introduced me to quilting when I went with her to a quilt show in Newcastle. I hadn't quilted before but I fell in love with this pattern by Nancy Halvorsen.

It's taken me over a year of doing a bit here and there when I was at university but it's nearly done. I've hand quilted the main body but I'm just finishing it off by machine quilting in the borders. I think I jumped in at the deep end with piecing, hand applique and hand quilting but I've loved every minute of it.

It's all applique. It took forever, particularly the Noah's arc panel in the top left!

Holy Cow! This is your first quilt? I would never have tried that as my first one! Although, I remember my first counted cross stitch, and I jumped into the deep end of the pool there too.
It is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

              Re: My first quilt

I've finished the love is.. quilt and I've dug out this one which I started when I got a little bored of the first one. This is about a third of the finished quilt. I'm hoping to finish it before I move house but that's in 2 weeks so I think I'd better get a wriggle on.

I've already planned my next quilt. I saw Sarah's blog entry about the disappearing 9 patch and thought it was really cute. It'll be nice to do a quilt that doesn't have any appliqué for a change so I've ordered 3 of the Moda Arcadia charm packs and I'm going to give it a go. Just have to wait for them to fly across the Atlantic!

Oh MY GOSH!! You are so brave. These quilts are gorgeous!! I love that your first ones are the kind most of us consider 'hard'.

You are gonna love the disappearing nine patch! It is seriously amazing. Quick and easy! (thanks for putting up the pics, too!)

I shall just hide my head in shame, and bow down to you. I would have never tried something like those two. I am just happy to get to spend time at the machine getting through as many seams as I can before I get interrupted! They are beautiful!

                          Re: My first quilt

The first pattern was from a book I bought from my LQS's stall at the show. It's called Love is, published by Art to Heart and the designer is Nancy Halvorsen. It's really cute and it has all sorts of matching projects from table runners to bags. It's published in the US so you can probably get your hands on it. Here's a pic of the front and back:

The newest one is a book I picked up when I went into the shop to buy fabric for the borders and backing. I thouht I could do bits of it to give myself a break during the hand quilting. The book's called The Gift of Friendship; published by the birdhouse, designed by Natalie bird. It's Australian!!! Didn't realise that, no idea how it got to the UK.
