My studio and how I keep my ideas....

I asked a question a while back how you organize your ideas....well here are mine...it's like a mad science lab in my area...

first...here's my studio space....I've had to reorganize and still haven't gotten the best way for fabric storage nailed down...the clear boxes with the lids are my WIPS...I am able to keep everything in one place that way and don't risk losing anything...

I keep a binder for all my patterns...

inside the binder I have tabbies for each pattern so that I can easily flip through. They are all in page protectors so that I can pull them out if I need to and not bother with pulling pages....

BTW...you can get this wonderful pattern in the quilt shop....

I also have a notebook. I use what is called a "computation notebook" and it's like a graph paper book for computer geeks....my hubby gets them for me...I sketch out my projects in it and work out fabric needs and borders...I color in everything with colored pencils and all my fabrics are color coded in the patterns....

So...anyone want to inspire me with your fabric storage ideas?

Why, Shell.....what fabulous pictures. Girl, I love your binder!! Now that is organization!!

Fabric storage....I will have to take a pic of how we store our stash at the shop. WE have some awesome metal shelves that work pretty good.....

I can't wait to see what all of you are gonna come up with!!

I would enjoy more organization ideas! I'm currently taking up a corner of the dining room, the problem with that is I also teach dance at home a time or two a week, and it all has to go when i do. Currently I have a pretty small stash so that's not a huge problem, but it's already sort of tiresome to move stuff back and forth....But the dining room has the most available space and best light, so there's not much other option there.

I also started a binder - I did this with the tons of stuff I printed off the web when knitting and it worked so well I also do it for quilting too. tutorials, free patterns, ideas, that kind of thing. Not as spiffed as yours, but it's coming along!

I wish I had the space to have a studio. You just don't get the space in British houses. I end up cutting out on the living room floor, sewing in the dining room and storing all WIP and stash in the spare bedroom upstairs. Not the most practical arrangement and definitely not the most organised!

I am very blessed to have a basement that we have finished into a play room/media room/studio space for me. We looked at transferring to Paris last year.....the housing was a big issue for me....we would have had to rent a house in the outlying countryside...but it was too pricey. We are certainly spoiled as far as space goes. I have a friend here who is from England...she says she can't move back simply because she'd never fit in a house over there!!!

Maybe I am just bored with where I live today but, I think I would be willing to give up some space and possessions to get to live somewhere beautiful like Paris or London. Maybe I have fantasized them into something better than they are. (I should also admit that I like to think of myself as a minimalist. although clutter still appears out of nowhere! ops: )I don't know...but still, those are on my short list of A.Ma.ZIng places to live...space or not!
