Angi, I love your jeans quilt. Was it difficult to sew and what is your backing fabric? It looks like it may be terry cloth or minky? It looks wonderfully warm and comfy, that's for sure.

      Re: My First Quilt

The backing is a Winter blanket ( one of them soft ones)

I am one that has to have all the lines line up. So I made it different size squares so the seams did NOT line up. Each row is the same size square

IE: line 1 was all 4 inch squares
      line 2 was all 6 X 4 squares
and so on until you get the size you need

P.S it was easy I sewed them in strips and then sewed them all together. First strip I made the as long as i needed it and went from there.

Angie, what a good job! I was told that using old jeans was a lot of work! How long did it take you to make? It looks beautiful!!

          Thanks so much

It is a lot of work. It is so heavy

Well I cut out all the squares by hand and even traced them on the jeans.

It took about 2 months all together.

I made sure I have all squares cut before i started sewing. once i started sewing it was only a few days until it was done.

Great job! I enjoy recycling jeans too and have made a lot of purses. Your quilt is really nice

Very cool! And very reminiscent of Gee's Bend quilts, particularly one referred to a 'Work Clothes'. (Check out some of the pics on the internet if you aren't familiar with them.) Gee's Bend quilts are considered works of folk art. You are an artist!

This was my first one. That I have ever done. I cut everything by hand. I bought a cheap pair of siccors and just used them for jeans. You will Never believe the ones I bought. I bought the ones thekids use for school Metal blades I still use them and they cost me 97 cents from walmart.
