Finished My First Quilt Top Tonight!

Well its 2am here but I had to finish the top tonight since I was so close! Won't be able to add the batting, back and quilting til the weekend. This was a wall hanging kit I purchased at the local fabric store before I discovered MSQC. Still not happy with some of my triangle points and I won't tell you how many times I had to rip seams and re-sew them...but all in all it was still a fun experience!

Oh my Sewbee, yes I looked very closely then realised you had kindly given us closer and closer views of the quilt and for sure I see some not matching points...and it's beautiful. I think you have done a lovely job and the colour is is very yummy, I can see why you loved it.

It is fabulous, especially for your very first top!
That is what they make seam rippers for. I have several and I am not afraid to use them!
        Keep up the great work!

I think it's lovely. I really like the effect of the different creams and tans. Good job!

                  Sewbee, that looks wonderful!
I love the colors and you did a great job!
Soooo, there are a few points you aren't happy with, but you got them looking better with trying again, so you've learned some things.
I think you've done a very nice job and you (and all of us) will get better with everything you do from now on.

It is a beautiful wall hanging! I think you did an excellent job! Matching points is so OVERATED!! LOL - seriously it gets better the more you sew. Remember there are no quilt police cuz that would be no fun! (and I would get lots of tickets!)
Can't wait to see it when it's finished, make sure to re-post! I get all fired up and inspired when I see completed projects!

Re: Finished My First Quilt Top Tonight!

Thank you everybody for the kind and encouraging comments! I want to learn so much that sometimes I don't have the patience to wait for my skills to develop as they should over time. I have been immersing myself in all things quilt related for the last 3-4 weeks, reading blogs, watching Youtube videos, picking up books etc. I have been stockpiling fabrics and notions and am now primed for some serious practice and playtime!

My interests actually lie in some combination of quilting, applique, sewing and creating my own patterns. I am drawn to quilts that tell a story with color and shapes. I know I really need to learn all the basics and keep at them to have the best results but I tend to get bored easily and need a challenge. So....no telling what I may attempt, but as long as I'm having fun and learning something new...I'm happy!

I just started cutting out my Dresden flower petals today using the new Easy Dresden template and my Moda City Weekend Charm Pack. I LOVED the tutorial Jenny did with the Dresden Flower and want to try something similar with some different sized flowers and maybe some applique stems and leaves. Maybe make a table runner out of it....don't really know yet...but am working it out as I go.

My 82 year old Daddy will be coming up today to visit for a few days so my projects will be put on hold. I always cherish any time I can spend with Dad and have a few surprises in store for him while he is here. I will hopefully be back to finishing up this Autumn Star wall hanging early next week and will post pics when its all done!

Thanks again for all the good advice and friendly encouragement. Never thought I would get into quilting...but never say never!

SewBee what a beautiful job! Love it! Would be glad to hang on my wall. Do you want my address? LOL All the seams you rip out are lessons learned! That 's how we learn and get better each time. You don't want to know how many I've ripped out. I just say lesson learned and keep trying. Let us see it when you finish it. Love seeing others beautiful work!

I love the Dresden Plate tutorial, and using it as flowers is such a great idea!
I have a too many years WIP from a quilt class I took that I am seriously thinking of using the Dresden Flower idea on. I gave up on it because I didn't like and/or didn't think I could do the turn under as you go applique for flowers. I have dug it and it's fabrics out and have done a little searching of some coordinating fabrics from the stash to add to it. Gonna give a smaller size a try after I get some more swap blocks done.
Have a great time with your Dad!
