    I really like this quilt

Its the Rings Cycle using the Jack's Chain pattern (the shape is called a dodecagon--a 10 sided figure, thanks to my grade school teachers I actually remember that). I am currently working on one of these. The patterns you find out there call for the center to be a hexie and then the 9 patch with triangles in between. It is hard to line up all those 1/4 seam allowances with all those funny angles. I have great appreciation for this now that I am sewing on mine. But wouldn't it be easier to make the center 6 equal triangles that way you can just sew a pie wedge? without any pesky wierd angles?

I hope someone out there can answer this before I get to far and have cut up all my fabric into hexagons.

Looks like a variation on the Castle Wall block, which DOES use pie wedges for the center.

I am of absolutely no real use to you, but I am so glad you posted this. I spotted this pattern in Amish Abstractions and added it to my bucket list. (I thought it could be done with triangles, too.) I had no idea what it was named or how to go about looking for a pattern to make my own. I hope you are successful with yours!

I love this pattern. What a great way to use up scraps.

I wonder if you could use the simple wedge tool?

I am now making this and I have got to tell you a few hints. I am making my own pattern so I am learning A LOT! If you ever do make this pattern it is extremely helpful to mark all the funny angles right at the 1/4 inch mark. The "Y" seams will actually meet up correctly and there will be no more puckering at this junction.

                  Hi!
I have seen a like pattern called alpine lake' by maw-bell designs in a book summer at the lake quilts. The trick there was to frame the nine patches in like wonky sets and then so lines, the middle line was nine patches and rectangles of background fabric. A very smart setting and no inset seams. I am probably describing it cryptically but may be you can check the book or designer and that might help?

I am not going to attempt this since as beautiful as it is I think it would drive me crazy looking at it but please post it when you are done. I would love to see it.

I also really like this pattern and have it on my "to do" list.

I really hate it when the voices in my head argue among themselves as though I wasn't even in the room.

I tried to be normal once......worst two minutes of my life.

I agree....but it just looks a little more complicated to me than I'm used to.
