    Close enough...

My DD's college friend fixed corned beef and cabbage over the weekend in celebration of St. Patrick's day.

Her 6-year-old finished his dinner, looked at his mother, and exclaimed,

"Mmmm, Mommy, I love this Irish chicken!"

Kinda like one day when I came home from school and dinner smelled delicious! It smelled like Sunday dinner!! I asked my mom what was for dinner and she said 'beef'. Later, as we were finishing dinner, she asked how everyone liked the heart she had prepared....BEEF heart!!! I don't think I've ever seen five kids race to the only toilet in the house faster than that!

Beef heart and home made noodles was always a favorite at my house.

When we were stationed in Germany we were traveling and stopped at a local restaurant. The daily menu was printed on colored paper and we got the 500th printing of the menu I think. So we took a chance on the local daily special....When the very LARGE plate was set in front of me and I discovered I had ordered boiled beef tongue.....I still shudder at that one..hubby got a great laugh over it. He had ordered the fresh fish.

My MIL once served us a roast of very lean meat. It tasted ok, but was a bit different. We found out after the meal that the meat was cougar. No thanks to tongue, heart, etc. In fact, now days I seldom eat beef at all. Just an occasional Wendy's burger.

My vote for Irish Chicken too. My husband had a beef tongue sandwich years ago and loved it ... told him I was happy he didnt have leftovers. But these days, I'll try anything - once..... as long as it's not moving!

When my daughter was young, she would only eat chicken. One day I made a beef pot roast. She stated that what was on her plate was not chicken. I told her it was just the "dark" meat. She ate all that was on her plate!!!

It is always fun and interesting to read about others' food likes and dislikes, especially regional or ethnic foods.

I grew up in Alaska and our family went moose hunting every year. It was always a delicacy to have fresh, buried in the ground next to the campfire, roasted moose heart and moose tongue sandwiches with salt, dill pickles, and mustard.
