    Prayers for my dad, please!

My dad fell this week. He dislocated his shoulder and broke his femur just below the hip. Had surgery to put in a rod, and they were able to put the shoulder back into place so he is just in a sling. He is in the hospital now and will be going to a rehab facility, probably over the weekend, for 3-4 weeks. My mom has back issues and can't ride in a car easily so she hasn't been to see him. They live 1500 miles away from me - fortunately my two brothers and their families live nearby. This happened on Tuesday and I just found out about it!! I'm trying to decide if I should go out there - thinking I'll wait until he's in rehab and there is more of a plan - it might be better for me to go when he gets home from rehab. My vacation days are limited and my husband has been out of work for a while so it's hard to know the right thing to do. UGH - I hate being so far away!

If you have a prayer to spare on his behalf, I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you so much!

So sorry, Cokie. It's not easy when you're so far away. I'll pray for your dad, mom, and you. If you just found out about it, you probably need a little time to figure out when your visit would be the most helpful to your parents. Hopefully, your brothers can help mom with transportation to the rehab facility. Maybe you could call him at the hospital? Good luck and keep us posted.

Sorry this has happened to your dad. I'd be having a stern talk with my siblings if they had done this. If I were you, I would wait until he is released from rehab to come home to go visit. That way you will be able to help your mom and dad out. There is not much really for you to do right now as your brothers can ferry your mom around and your dad is where he needs to be and is getting the care he needs there.

Thanks for your prayers. I was able to talk to him for a while tonight. My brother was there and said he'd had a rough day - they had him sit up on the side of the bed and he was in quite a bit of pain, and was running a slight fever. Dad sounded pretty good but a little confused - he asked me if the Broncos won today (he thought it was Sunday). He referred to this as a "little bump in the road." That's my dad - always seeing the positive. He just turned 88 years old the week before Christmas.

Prayers for you and your family!
Having dealt with a dad in the hospital this summer, I am going to suggest that you wait until he comes home to plan your visit.
By then the rest of the family will be exhausted. He will need help getting around, and you can come in and give them a respite.

Aw so sorry this happened to your Dad. "A little bump in the road" sounds like it's hard to keep a good man down. At least he has a positive attitude, this will go a long way in his recovery. I will add my prayers to the long list here.

Praying for your Dad and your family. It's really hard when you are so far away. I think your help would really be appreciated when your Dad comes home. It would help both of your parents. ((HUGS))...I know how frustrating it is to be so far away.
