The technologically challenged Night Owl @,@

Good grief, HOOT! My machine is acting up again after sewing perfectly nicely for a while. It will even sew well on a piece of scrap fabric but as soon as I put the applique block under the needle, it gets tangled/strangled underneath. Plus, Yahoo was hacked and I can't even figure out how to change my password, which I changed in September because they were hacked! Good thing DH is a programmer so he can fix that.

Some of you ladies give your machines names. Mine thinks it's called GDDMMIT!

I hope the rest of you are having a better night than I am. I think the wind chill is going to be twenty below in the morning. All the schools have delayed opening times.

    Hoot your news!

We might be seeing some snow, but most likely just really cold temps for around here. Yea! Die bugs, DIE!

We had a single mom in our community that lost her job as a small local restaurant had to close within 5 months of opening (family health problems). Her former employer realized that she wasn't going to have Christmas for her kiddos, so she asked if there was some place in the community where the mom could go to get a couple of toys. For all of the snark that comes off of the community Facebook page, we have some seriously generous folks out here. It sounded like the toys were being handled for the three kids, so I asked about clothes/coats. Her kids are quite a few sizes behind my daughter, so her clothes of those sizes are already with another family. The middle girl needed a coat, so today on. My errands I found a purple jacket I hope will work. I also picked up hats and gloves for all of them, plus a few other stocking stuffers.
I would have made them hats, but for less than a $1 I couldn't get the fabric! I made sure the bag with the coat was marked "Open Me Now!" It is going to be in the 20's the next week or so. I don't want that girl freezing until Christmas!
Our neck of the woods might be weird, but at least the majority of our community are kind hearted. From the sounds of things, they ought to have a decent day.

Whoo Hoo! I sewed two seams today. At this rate, I might finish my Christmas projects before 2020!

Getting cold here too. Friday high is supposed to be 35 ... Saturday high in the mid 50's ... and 70 by Sunday. I know it doesn't sound bad to you northerners - but freezing down here is a dirty word. I'm sure that the family will appreciate anything they get ... but that purple jacket will keep that little girl toasty.

I did more picking than sewing today. I am achieving sewing burnout! Never thought that would happen ... but I need a break. Steve is coming for a few days so that will get me away from the machine for a while.

Hope the password change goes easily ... and, please, y'all stay warm1

Well, I'm up way earlier than I want to be. I've been doing the hot/cold thing several times since I went to bed.........that's always fun. So here I am because I can't go back to sleep. I will probably enjoy a little nap under my Grinch quilt later.

Kim......do you think your needle needs to be changed? Maybe it's having a harder time going through the layers with the applique. Just a thought.....

Cathy.....it's nice to hear about the good hearted people in our communities.

I do think I might have been that! Because it seemed like the needle pushed the fabric down in the hole! So I changed to one of my new sharps and it is working again. That Mistyfuse must take the sharp off the needle tip with use.

What I can't figure out is why the invisible thread spool says to use a topstitch needle. I seems like a tiny thread like that would do better in a smaller hole needle...

Thank you for sharing such a positive story....and for being a pretty wonderful person! Our clubhouse has filled our 10ft tree at least twice with hats and gloves for the local charities to the homeless and bins of toys... They do work constantly with the local food pantry and abuse shelter, but it is wonderful to see it all come to the forefront right now... GB

Oh you are all so wonderful. My machine was having a little problem in sewing my zipper bags . I broke a few needles but the backside tension must have been off with the thick layers. Seems alright now.
Lots of people out there that haven't planned on Christmas. Like Dave Ramsey says, it comes on the same day every year. Thank God and Jesus for all the generous people who did plan and now have the resources to help others. The coat will be wonderful, the hats and gloves appreciated I'm certain. I think poor children appreciate warmth more than teddy bears. I'm always amazed at those toy for tot programs...socks and underwear would be giving all year long. I guess I'm really getting old. Don't get me wrong, I want joy to spread to the less fortunate, but when I last pulled a name from the angel tree, they were asking me to get them a Wii. I took my angel back and gave it to the woman and said it was beyond my resources. She told me to pick another...it wanted an XBOX. I gave it back and told the woman at the tree that I would find a family that truly NEEDED something. And I did.
Currently I have a young man working for me, he is 24 and walks 3 miles to my restaurant every night to work a two hour shift. On Sundays, 4 hours. He has worked for me 18 months. He has been trying to get a car running for all this time. He finally has it running and now is saving up for license and insurance. Now, guess what, he took it out on his street with 3 houses on the road to make sure it was running before he got the license and insurance and a police officer saw him and wrote him a ticket for $400 for driving without a license and insurance. So, he has been paying off his fine without protest.
I send food home with him every night and he is so appreciative. I'm thinking a giant food basket for Christmas.
