    The Cuisinart Recall Night Owl

Hoot hoot! I found out on the news tonight that my Cuisinart blades are recalled...the recall is for all blades with rivets around the center knob.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Cuisinart is recalling 8 million food processors because pieces of the blade can break off and wind up in food. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday that …

The recall goes all the way back to 1996 and I got an extra replacement blade at the time.

My friend is doing well after her surgery and was home the same day. Yay!

I finished sewing another block and have two more fused ones ready to go.

    How are you?

Kim, thanks for the heads up on the processor. Will have to check mine when I get home. Can't remember what the blades look like - think the last time I used it was 2000!

More pillowcases done - and got an order for one also. Baby quilt blocks sewn into rows - will hopefully finish the top and sandwich later today. Went to play Bingo at the local pizza parlor tonight. 8 games and the prizes are discount certificates off of future purchase. There were about 20 of us there. Met a lot of nice people.

Car hit a pole on the main drag and knocked out power for an hour. So happy it came back on - it could have turned into a cold night with no heat! How's everyone else doing?

I think I have one of those too. The plastic housing on mine has been cracked for years.

I managed to get the backings washed and trimmed for two quilts. I also fished through some donated fabrics. WHY am I getting all of the smoke-soaked fabrics lately? Ugh. The polyester stuff is going in a sack and heading to a donation station. They are really colorful, but they smell. The cottons have cleaned up and I'm sure I can find those a home, even if they are not with me!

Wednesday is going to be errand day. Ugh. I'd rather be home, but if I do it now, I won't have to go later.

Something has the livestock guard dogs all wound up tonight. It's pretty cold out there, and I'm not really wanting to be hanging out there waiting to see what pops up, but I guess that is where I am headed.

I had stored mine away as I really didn't like the thing, too big and heavy for my use. After hearing about the recall, I got it out, cleaned it up and saw that it is one of their recalls. That's not the only part that they need recalling. As I was cleaning a different attachment it just crumbled. So be sure and check all your other attachments. I may call them or just throw in trash since I hate the thing. Think I bought it back in 1999 ??. Including pictures. My model is a DLC-10E.

Thanks kimsophia for the heads up. I use my Cuisinart all the time, and yes it is one of the models listed. Don't want to spend time on the phone on this issue today. Typical Murphy's Law scenario here - my cable set top box died and I have to go to the Time Warner store to get it replaced. Just to spice things up a bit, my furnace quit! Yipes the cold snap won't be over for a while, either. So I am waiting in lines all day I guess. Fortunately I have ceramic space heater. Also added bread baking to the To Do list just for the warmth!

I have a Kitchenaid, but will check those blades too since I think they are assembled the same way. I'm sure if one company is doing a recall, the others will soon follow suit.

I don't like mine either. One of my dd;s wants it. I'll tell her about the recall (mine is on the list too) and see if she wants to bother about it.

I bought a cute red 3cup kitchen aid which is enough for me.

I bought the 3 cup kitchenaid also and that's just perfect for me. I may go ahead and fill out the form on the Cuisinart and see what happens. If it's fixed I'll donate it to the Salvation Army.

Thanks Kimsophia for all the information.

I make a lot of soups and I find my Cuisinart to be really helpful for that as you don't need to make a pretty, square dice as you might want to have in a salad. Also my church has a giant pork loin meal as a fundraiser every fall and we serve applesauce. It slices the apples up well after the other ladies peel them with these peeler cranks that they screw onto the edge of the counter.

Agree it's great for soup vegetables. Also I make a lot of stir fry dishes since I don't eat meat, and with cooking for 1 it's just perfect. It does pie crust well and I make quiche variations a lot so it's handy for that. Now with Christmas coming it will be a risk I'm taking to use it to make nut rolls. But if I don't make them, there will sadness across the land.

Yeah, I have a lot of nuts to chop too. I was wondering if I could get away with checking the blade afterwards to see if any parts were missing...or I could chop them by hand. There aren't THAT many. It's so much easier for onions and celery for stuffing, though...sigh...

I'm wondering, it must be awfully small pieces that break off that you wouldn't notice after you took the blade off to scrape out the bowl.

From the TV show that I saw, it showed little pieces of a rivet. I can see that breaking a tooth. It also said cutting the mouth had happened, so the metal shard must be sharp. I don't know if any of the sharp blade edge made it into the food. It's not uncommon for the blade to be coated in food when you remove it, so you couldn't see a problem then and I've never looked at it closely after it goes through the dishwasher. So it could be overlooked...especially for someone who shares my near nearsightedness.
