Got The Diagnosis

I just found out what I have: Basal Cell Carcinoma (Non-Melanoma). It's a fairly common type of skin cancer and if caught early it usually doesn't invade the body. I've had a 'thing' on top of my hand for months but it just got really ugly recently. They want to cut more of it out and I need to have a scan.

This is good news....great news! It's not over with yet, but I'm so thankful it's not Melanoma.

Yes, they want to remove more tissue to see how far it's developed. I had this done once before in the 70's but the lesion had a whole different look.

I bet you're relieved it's not Melanoma. DH has had 2 skin cancer surgeries. Two yrs. ago he had a Squamous Cell Cancer on his ear. Last year he had Basal Cell Carcinoma on end of his nose. Both times he needed the Moh's surgery, where they take more tissue until they get clear margins. He needed only 1 cutting with the ear, then a small circular skin graft from tissue on the side of his neck, close to the ear. The nose surgery needed 2 cuttings, which were quite deep; the surgeon had to do a reconstruction job on his nose. That was a much bigger deal, was very painful, etc. I think with it being on your hand, it shouldn't be that big a deal. It's good you had it taken care of when you did.
