We butchered 5 of the 9 turkeys today. Wow. That is a LOT of work!
I did something to my thumb on the first bird and it's not working right. Apparently, once the birds are inverted they calm way down. They don't seem to freak out until the very last bit, then they flap their wings like crazy. If you don't hold them steady they make quite a mess. I found out that those toms are really strong. I don't know if he hyper-extended my thumb backwards or jammed it. In either case my left hand isn't working well. Of course it happened on the first bird of the day!
Our son showed up and helped us get through the next four. It was nice to have that third body.
There of the Tom weighed 50# or more. The other two were about 45. I think we either fed them too well, or let them get too big before we butchered them. It was our first year, so we will know better for next year.
No sewing for tonight. I'm off to tuck in for the night!
