    Saturday's Adventure

We have a "scenic drive" every fall here in Central Illinois. It is called Spoon River Drive. Well it isn't really a DRIVE anymore.. it like one huge Flea Market/Craft Fair. And you don't get much scenic sites unless we get lots of rain to fill up the "little river".. It's more like a creek and dry stream bed.
But the Flea Market/Craft Fair is amazing.. if you want to stop at every little one along the 12 mile stretch. Or maybe head to one of the small town Parks.. full of vendors.

My Daughter & I pick ONE special spot to visit and explore. And this year we chose The LIL' Red Barn.

Out of the way, but lots of signs to lead you to this little Gem of Americana history.. You can find a spot to sit around a fire pit.. eat a grilled pork Chop Sandwich and peruse the red barn full of antiques.

    I met a long arm quilterDSCN8354.jpg

And found an old house that reminded me of my Gram's house. Missing paint and aged look was the same as I remembered from spending summer's there. DSCN8358.jpg

Loved the trip back in time.. and we didn't get lost!! We had an ADVENTURE

I forgot all about the Spoon River Drive! I grew up in Galesburg but haven't lived there for almost 40 years! I love living in the inland northwest but do miss the fall colors of the midwest!

That sounds like it would be a fun trip for the day just looking at all of the crafts and collectibles.

WOW - It would have been fun to attend! But 3 1/2 hrs from Chicago would have been a bit much. Wonder how far away from Hamilton that is? I looked it up and it seems like it's always the 1st & second weekend in October. I could route myself that way after the bash next year.

Thanks for posting those beautiful pics. Glad you enjoyed yourselves.

I haven't been on the Scenic Drive for years and I live just across the Illinois River where the Spoon dumps in. It has changed a lot in the last few years. There used to be tons of arts and crafts and the roads were blocked with "tourists". There are less and less vendors every year and now there is more flea market than crafts. I certainly don't need any more junk! There are some beautiful spots though and wouldn't it be nice if they waited just a few more weeks so that the trees would be in their colorful glory? It is beautiful scenery for central Illinois.

That sounds like a wonderful day. I love the wreath in the first photo. But the photo of the school desk makes me feel old! I sat at a desk like that in school...and now it's an antique!! What does that make me???? LOL!!
