    It's Friday at last

Friday hmmmm. Well hubby is gone to the camp so that is why I am up so early. Yesterday was pretty much a repeat of the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that. It is just dead at the PO!! Thankfully I can work on my quilt or I would go insane.

So today will be pretty much the same as yesterday.

I went looking for something in my sewing room this morning, nope can't find it, dagnabit. Oh well, it will turn up SOMEWHERE right?

Have a great day everyone. Happy Thanksgiving weekend to my Canadian friends.

Happy Thanksgiving, Canadian friends! Do you have a common menu for your Thanksgiving like we in the US do? We love our Turkey and dressing and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce for our Thanksgiving day.

I am still plugging away at finishing up on my various costuming jobs, the biggest has a deadline coming up tomorrow, so I'd better shake a tail feather today to get the last few things finished. Ready to hit the sewing room in a few minutes for the last projects, all of them cut out and easy to finish on the serger.

Speaking of sergers, I've used my sergers for over 20 years. I still have one that I bought used in 1992 and it still works great. I also have a new one, which I have not been happy with for sewing through heavy stuff. It just refused to cut and sew through seam lines. Very maddening. One day I was playing with the stitch width knob and set it for the widest width. Voila! Now it sews through practically everything! Who knew? Guess I should have taken all those classes when I bought it 3 years ago!

Going to hit the sewing room now. Have a great day!

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, turnips, sometimes sweet potatoes, homemade buns. I don't like cranberry sauce.

My friend bought a serger at Value village and it has been sitting in my spare room waiting to be used. I have never used one before.

Value Village is here in the US and is my favorite source for excellent clothing items I use for my costuming jobs. Great prices!

          Morning all,
Still dark out, skies should be lightening in a few minutes. Just finished packing up my car and getting ready to head home. Been a wonderful week away but it will be good to get home to my husband again.

Visited 3 quilt shops while I was here and got to spend time with family and friends. Stopped at the apple orchard yesterday and picked up my favorite variety of apples, and 2 pies ( one for my granddaughter for her birthday that was yesterday, and one for our house) the drive home will smell wonderful with the pies in the car!

Well, sun is coming up so I better get a move on I've got a 4 1/2 hour drive ahead if me, sooner I start the sooner I 'll get home. Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian members!

Happy long weekend to both my Canadian and U.S. friends. In terms of my Canadian Thanksgiving menu, well it will be turkey, homemade cranberry sauce (I hate that canned stuff and this way I control how much sugar goes in it), mashed potatoes with gravy, some other veg and my pumpkin pie.

I am off to buy spandex/lycra for the first time ever tomorrow. First on my list of things to make with my serger are a couple of lower impact sports bras. As a runner, I use high impact bras for obvious reasons, but that's WAY too much support in the gym.

Need to get back to quilting, but still have no desire. I know Christmas is coming fast and I need to have two quilts finished. I plan to take them to the shop where I rented time on their longarm to finish them off again, unless my lottery numbers get picked and I can buy my own machine.

Have a safe long weekend all. For those in Florida, stay safe.

              Morning Everyone,

Wishing Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian quilty forum friends. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. We all have so much to be thankful for and then there's the food and the family and friends to share it with.

Cathy, have a safe drive home. Glad you got to have a getaway.

We're praying for everyone in the path of the hurricane. Jeff's sister and her husband live in Florida and so does our Blondie's daughter Sarah and her family. We are getting a storm later this morning, so I'm getting off here so I can sew a while before I have to shut things down. Jeff has a 3-day weekend for Columbus Day.

Have a blessed and safe Friday, everyone.

                Morning......

I am at a crossroads.......last night I was accused of being SELFISH. Of course, hubby did not go into full explanation of why he accuses me of be SELFISH. Outside of the fact, is that I don't seem to WAIT on him, hand and foot like I used to.

With brief explanation? I joined the local quilt guild this past January; just to see if I could finally acquire new friendships since moving to Arkansas from KC Metro Missouri over two years ago. Not to mention the dealing with the discouraging battle of find a job that fits my skills and experience; I am beginning to think it DOES NOT exist here. So, I have been trying to create and quilt like a mad woman to help with the annual Quilt Show in a couple of weeks.

It is very evident my husband DOES NOT understand my passion, nor does he support it. And I will admit, I do not cook and clean like I used to. And if my quilting is causing my husband/child to see me as SELFISH after all the years of sacrifice I have given?
Should I sell everything and not create anymore? I'm not sure if I will get my quilt entry done in time for the show....why finish now?

Hey Sherri, I got to the point in my life where I just vowed to not let guilt run my life. You've been a good wife and mother and made sacrifices along the way. It's your turn to start taking care of you! I know my family had a hard time adjusting to my mindset. But in the long run, it was best for us all. Just let them deal with it, and pitch in and help out.

                    Good morning.

Sherri, please don't give up on your quilt entry. You will enjoy helping with the quilt show. Quilting is your passion....it's too important to give up. Quilting is your job related stress reliever, your passion, and your creative outlet. Hugs to you, quilty friend.

Hoping all of our friends in east Florida are staying safe.

Sherri, I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. Nothing worse than someone being unhappy in their life and then making it someone else's fault.

Thinking a lot of the people in Florida and hoping all are staying safe and evacuating if they are told to do so. I am hoping the storm will veer off into the sea. Of course then a whole lot of people will complain that they shouldn't have been made to evacuate but I say better safe than sorry. Hope all our Florida friends stay dry and out of harms way!

Going to family friends for dinner on Saturday then up to my friends cottage until Monday. Picked up a few books from the library so I'm looking forward to having some down time to try and read them.

Not much else going on. Hugs to all in need of them. xox

                        Re: It's Friday at last

Sherri, maybe we all come to point in our lives where we become "selfish" My DH doesn't know how to open a dishwasher, complains about what he has for dinner, how much I spend on groceries, how much time I spend sewing, that I sit and read and don't pay attention to the news. I have always been a "be there" wife and mother and now I'm tired of it. I run a restaurant and wait on people all day and clean constantly (I maintain a 99-100 sanitation score consistently( But now when I'm home, I have just started ignoring the complaints. I used to feel guilty that I didn't weed the flowers weekly, but really...who cares...he doesn't like company any more...he thinks hunting superceeds social engagements...so I have just gotten on with my life. We don't need to be lonely old women with no hobbies....My mother is a prime example. I sent her a quilt for her 90th birthday this week and she said, Oh I wish I knew how to do something....all her life she worked and came home and took care of daddy. Now she is old and can't read because of macular degeneration, so she just sits. I refuse to be her in 20 years.
Just keep on sewing, reading, engaging with friends or acquaintances and make a good life for yourself and if he wants to come along for the ride...all the better.
success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiam

                          Re: It's Friday at last

TGIF is all I can say! Well not really....

Monique, I don't know what's worse, having very little to do at work or being slammed busy. These past two weeks have been extremely busy and stressful for me, and next week isn't going to be any better. But after that, it will be like coming to a complete halt until the 1st of the year.

I've been on the verge of a mental explosion (dare I say "going postal"?) all week, so last night all I wanted to do was hide myself in my sewing room and bury myself in my fabric stash. Yet I was afraid in my state of mind that I would ruin a project by having my mind elsewhere and making bad cuts, or terrible stitching. So what I ended up doing was tackling my scraps, which not only seemed to have reproduced, but also had taken up new residences, a box (or two) here, a bag there, and a tote hiding under the table.

I dragged them all out onto my cutting table, and started sorting, first by colors, and then seperated solids from prints, and bagged them up accordingly. Two and a half hours later of mindless work, I had all my scraps sorted in one large plastic tote and feel like I accomplished something - and nothing was ruined , and my mood was greatly improved enough that I actually got a good night's sleep, dreaming of all the scrappy quilts I could make.

Sherry, I sympathize with you, spouses (and other family members) can be so needy at times, and forget that we all need "me time". I hope you can help him to understand and realize that you still love him, but that you need and deserve your "me time", and that it's healthy for your relationship for you to have friends and interests. Don't give up your passion, it's your outlet and a way for you to connect with other people. Hopefully you can encourage DH to explore his own outside interests/hobbies.

Wishing all our Canadian friends a Happy Thanksgiving, and continued prayers being sent to my family and friends who are in the path of Hurricane Matthew.

Well, my day started off rather abruptly. I rolled over, looked at the clock, and it was the exact time I should have been heading out to go take DGK's to school. Managed to actually get there in time.
Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends.
Sheri, don't let the DH bring you down. You have put in your time for them, now it is time for you. He will get over it.
Prayers for our friends in FL and along the east coast that will be affected by the hurricane.

I'm very thankful my DH is supportive of my quilting hobby. Sherri, I'm sorry for your troubles. By all means, do NOT give up your sewing/quilting hobby, which I'm sure is a stress reliever. We all need friends in our lives. Keep up with your guild. Your DH should be thankful you are home most of the time & still "present" for him. You are not selfish! Maybe he should find a hobby that interests him so he won't be on your case about yours. I also do a lot of reading; it helps get my mind off my caregiving responsibilities. DH reads a lot, too. There's not much he can do now that he weighs only 99 lb. & is so weak. For many years he was involved in his HO model railroading hobby. I always supported him in that. It seems like life often doesn't turn out the way we envisioned it, but we have to cope with life as it is, not as we wish it were. One day at a time.
