She will have such good care and I'm sure ultimately it will be a big relief for her children. Glad they were able to place her so quickly!

From experiencing the same situation with my MIL, I know how much less stress you'll have with her in an elder facility. I can't say she'll like it, but you'll know she's in good hands.

I think the assisted living places are doing a great job for the elders and I think the scary part is change. As we get older, we don't want change and I imagine moving anywhere would be the same. At least you will know she has good reliable care. Just think, she could have met a gigalo that was just after her money. lol

Hope your MIL deals with the change well and she gets to enjoy her new surroundings.

My mom adjusted to assisted living well, except she really missed being able to cook. As a result she was very critical of the food, and was always asking for snacks to be brought in, to be taken out to eat, etc.
To be fair, the food wasn't that good in the establishment, so she had a valid complaint.
Dad was happy anywhere Mom was, bless him!

Thinking of you all. It's hard to make the change, but it can be a good one for her and for her children.

Monique I know this is a hard decision to make, but it is a GOOD one. Nursing home staff are so much better trained to look after our aging parents than we are. My prayers are with you and Les as you make the transition. Hugs

Oh Monique- I know this is going to be a difficult transition for Les and his sister but most likely will be a great move for mom. She will have lots of company "her own age" and it relieves the kids of so much stress in being in that caregiver role. As much as we want to care for our parents, it does impact our own lives. It will be nice for all to know she is in a place where she is being cared for, meals prepared, meds given and entertainment provided. Seniors homes have come a long way in providing a great quality of life for those who can no longer stay in their own homes.
Hope the transition isn't too difficult for both mom and the siblings. I will be thinking of you all.

Even though this is the best thing for your MIL, it's still a difficult thing. My thoughts and prayers with all of you.

Bitter sweet day for the Atkinsons today

We got the call yesterday from my sister-in-law that my mother-in-law will be moving into a seniors residence this morning. Les feels sad that his mom has to leave her home, but it is long overdue. They did well keeping her in her own home as long as they did.

    Thanks for reading.
