    Painting laminate

So totally not quilting......but curious......has anyone ever painted laminate counter tops? I have checked with Pinterest and YouTube, but would love to hear from someone who did this for real. Does it work? Does it last? Does it look good? My DD is considering it for a bar/kitchen area in her basement, as the Kelly green there doesn't go with her color scheme of her heart's desire. Suggestions? Advice? Help?

I have a pint of the special paint to do it, but I have not done it yet. Did I say I've had that paint for about five months now? I'm a little scared.

We went to a home show last spring and there was a company that did it professionally. The samples they had looked great. We even had them come out at give us an estimate, but I just couldn't bring myself to go through with it.

We had friends that painted their kitchen counter tops. They were originally bright orange. I thought they looked great when they were done. The paint was a huge improvement and completely changed the look of the kitchen. I know she said to do a little practice before you begin. I can not tell you how the paint held up as they moved.

I've painted the countertops several times at work. For a retail environment they last about 8 years. Clean well, let dry. Prime surface, let dry then paint. I usually put on a high-gloss oil based paint, for durability.

Yes. Our last house had dark-dark brown in two bathrooms. I painted the formica/laminate with an off-white and did a quick wash with a pecan color to make it look aged. Covered it with a clear finish (it was recommended at Lowes) and it was good over 14 years with no issues at all. Loved it!! The laminate in those bathrooms had a crinkle pattern (not smooth).

We have painted the kitchen units but not the worktops. The paint worked well for around 7-8 years but are looking 'tired' now. Could repaint but DH has promised me new units next year so will just keep them clean for now.
