What to do with a day off!

Well, the restaurant is closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the swimming pool has been leaking for two years and we knew the day would come when a new liner was the only solution. So, DH ordered the liner and on Monday this week , (oh, did I mention it might have been the hottest day of the year ) pooliner3.jpgpooliner2.jpgpooliner1.jpg he drained the pool and cut out the liner. Then, he said, "I need a little help moving this box over by the diving board". Now, I remember, we did this 15 years ago and it wasn't a big deal...but...we were younger then. So, we pushed and pulled and moved the box. THen , we opened it and tried to unfold it in an orderly fashion and find the corners. THen, we put some weights on the ends and we lifted high and hauled it across the expanse of sand...at least part way across before the weight forced us to let go. But, now its in and we are putting water in it and in a couple of weeks we should be swimming again.

Yay!!! Pools are a lot of work but so worth it. Some friends brought their twin granddaughters over tonight to swim in our pool and it reminded me why we continue messing with it. We just don't use it as much as we should so it's fun when little ones come to play. They also brought supper and homemade ice cream!!!

that's how we feel. We don't swim much now that we are older but twice a year the children come and bring all the grandchildren and I love the laughter and the fun. It takes me back to the days when our babies were home and in that pool 10-12 hours a day when the weather got warm. DH threatens tofill it in, but I think he enjoys the memories too. He hates swimming in the pool. He's a pond guy.

Wow, I never saw pool liners before. I thought they are concrete.

I thought they were concrete, too. Interesting and a lot of work. As hot as it's been this summer, I'd be the 1st one in after it was filled!

I have never seen a pool like that either!
It looks very inviting!!
Ours is gunite concrete.
It must depend on what part of the country you live in too! And how high your water table is.

There are gunnite concrete pools and there are vinyl lined pools.. The vinyl lined ones have a steel side and a sand bottom. If you have a lot of freezing and thawing in the winter, the concrete can crack. The sand on the bottom can expand and contract so you don't get the cracks. The disadvantage in the vinyl is that you can tear it but its pretty strong. We don't let anyone have glass around the pool (like beer bottles or wine glasses) I keep a supply of paper and plastic for those occasions. We had a pigmy goat fall in one time (probably 25 yrs ago) and it didn't do any damage. If a horse fell in and couldn't get out it would probably tear up the bottom but just general swimming and diving is no problem. Only toys that are made for the pool are allowed because little cars and boats could puncture it I think.
