Organizing magazine and and pattern's,

Tell me, how to be able to find them after you put them up........????.......All the seasonal ones are , no biggie.

It's the ones with different pattern and ideas, Im having trouble with.

I'm considering, cutting them up and making a scrapbook, like, book of pattern's. Unless you can give me a better solution.

Hi: I have (or did have until I moved) all my magazines shorted according to name, and are in month/year order. I put them in magazine holders and mark the name of the magazine and from/to dates on the front. When I can finally unpack them all, I am thinking of making a copy of the table of contents page(s) and put those in a binder. You could at least look through the TOC easier than trying to thumb through a bunch of magazines.

Mine are in Ziploc bags and filed in alphabetical order.

That is a good idea.
I love my mag's, but I hate not being able to find my liked ideas. This would help preserve some old books, That were passed down to me.Thank you.

I fixed up one of those filling tote boxes with a handle, separating, alphabetically, loose pattern's. It is super handy.

Same for applique pieces.

The books and magazines have been challenging.

I have used sticky notes to mark patterns I REALLY like.

Bee, I've been removing the quilt patterns that I might actually make instead of keeping the whole magazine. I have binders that have dividers telling me what kind of quilt pattern is in each section of the binder. When I'm in need of ideas for a particular type of quilt I can easily look through the appropriate category in those binders. For me, it's not worth the storage space to hold onto magazines with pages and pages of information that I'll never need.

Examples of dividers:

Baby Quilts
Bed quilts
Wall Hangings
Applique
Paper-Piecing

Those are some of the categories I have in each binder.

I love using the clear page protector's with binder holes, they keep everything fresh and accessible.
Indeed, I'd rather store, only, the patterns and info I will actually use. I will work more in this direction.
I appreciate the tips.

I do need something to liable with. Visually friendly, easy to read labels, if you can suggeste any kind, I'm still obtaining tools like this.
I color code a lot to help see differences.
Looking forward to making these booklets of inspiration, information and resorts.

I don't have that many magazines cause I donated so many that were collecting dust. My dh works from home so we have a copy machine here and lots of office supplies. I got into the habit putting one or two 2x4" blank white label on the cover of every magazine and then as I go through it, if I find something I am pretty sure I would make I make a note on the sticker. Idk if this would work if you have dozens magazines though. Patterns are so easy to come by on line now that I hardly buy them any more.

I rarely buy the magazine's. I check them out at the Library and peruse the patterns. If one tickles my fancy, then I'll copy it and put it in my Inspiration notebook.
In have also snipped photos out of the quilting catalogs and mounted them to graph paper where I have reconstructed the block or a small segment of the quilt.
The binder is organized into quilts and quilted crafts. Not very ruthless I am afraid. I do have a couple of the photo boxes with my Marti Michell templates, other acrylic templates, and the 5x7 sized pattern baggies/envelopes in each. While not perfect, they are contained and labled.
If you want to keep your magazines intact, I'd suggest flagging the pages with color coded post it's with the project you are interested in written on the edge and storing in a magazine box. You could keep them as suggested above, or grouped by project type.

The copy and printer Is on my Replace IT List.
The kids wore out a couple over the years.
Now I need my own....for downloading. My DD also got a new office job, ding, ding, ......Bell's going off, in my head.....lol.
She has downloaded and printed off my Crafty patterns, when she worked at the Library..... Now , it would be handier to have my own.
I pick up mag's or Books sometimes just for treats to myself. Some are gifts, too...
I still like thumbing through, picture books, but admitted, reading instructions is defiantly easier on the zoom tablet.

I found some large colorful book holders a while back on Amazon. I thought they could be useful. Labelling the back side with contents.......

I have one and got another, matching, metal filling cabinet at my mom's place, I think , I could use to help stoare, the templates, and other patterns too.
If they are tall enough maybe I could put a table top on them, to set a printer and copy machine on.

I hope a Go Big Electronic cutter too. In the future.

At one time I was covered up with quilt mags. For several years now I just keep the patterns I really love and file them in the same way as Rebecca (above). I keep the Block and Quilty mags and put sticky notes on the covers of what I intend to make and the page number. The only mags I subscribe to now are BLOCK, McCalls and American Patchwork & Quilting. When McCalls expires I'm not renewing and about a year ago I cancelled Love of Quilting and Quilters World.

I file my patterns in an accordion file, actually la plastic portfolio that expands. You can get them at dollar stores for about $3 and they really hold a lot.

I scan and save my patterns on my computer. That way I have a colour reference if I need one and can print it if I want.
