My Clematis Blooms are Prolific This Year

The purple clematis by our front porch is absolutely loaded with blooms this year! The best ever since we've lived here, which is 38 yrs. The clematis was here when we bought the house. I trim it back every spring. As it climbs up, I use twine to secure it to the porch support. In previous years, we've had house finches build nests inside the vines. This a.m. I finally planted geraniums along the front flower bed. These are beautiful plants which were on sale since it's so late in the season. I usually plant Dusty Miller in between them, but that was sold out. I'm way behind with all my flower bed weeding, but I work at it as I can. I'm still searching for some reliable help, but seems to be scarce.Clematis - 6-29-2016 002.jpgClematis - 6-29-2016 003.jpgClematis - 6-29-2016 005.jpgClematis - 6-29-2016 004.jpg

Stunning clematis. I have planted one at our new house, I am anxious to see what color it is but will probably have to wait for next year.

Lovely, just lovely. Love that purple color. And the color of your geraniums compliments the purple. Oh so pretty!

Absolutely gorgeous! I hope mine grow up to be like yours one day. Here's one of my favorites, unfortunately it doesn't bloom like this every year.

Nope - no scent. I think the blossoms get more prolific the older the vine. My son in MD planted one, but he said he might need to wait 3 yrs. for blooms. I haven't really read up on their care. I was told they need at least 6 hrs. of sunshine a day. Also the roots need to have shade from other perennials, etc. to protect the roots from extreme heat. In the fall, I pack grass clippings & leaves around the base to protect them from the cold winter temps. I cut it back each spring to about 2 ft. above the ground. I usually fertilize it only in the spring--just those generic granules like you buy at Wal-Mart which I work into the soil.

So pretty! I'll have to see if they grow in my region.

Beautiful! I don't have a green thumb so the only things that grow in my yard are roses they pretty much take care of themselves.
