CA Quake

Any other Californians feel the quake that we had a little after 9 pm? It was about 70 miles away from me, but the house shook pretty good. Nothing damaged chandelier was swinging awhile after the shaking was over and the glass door on the shower rattled a lot. It registered 5.1 in La Habre.

Yes I felt it, La Habra is about 40 miles from me. Just felt like a rolling quake this time. I've been through several quakes, Sylmar, Whittier & the big one in Northridge. We were within 10 miles of that one.
This one wasn't bad at all, compared to those. No damage anywhere that I've heard of so far. Hope Mother Nature isn't gearing up for another big one...

We received a phone call at 6:40 a.m. (in the Netherlands) from my older daughter telling us about the earthquake. It's the worst we've had since moving to California since the epicenter was in LaHabra about 10 miles from our home. Things were shaking like crazy according to Joanna. Some pics fell off the walls. Things were falling in the pantry. The cat was totally freaked out and insisted on being let outside. I hope she's okay and will come home. She said the first one they felt was just over a 3, then the big one hit over 5 and then some additional aftershocks at level 3. I imagine they'll be feeling aftershocks for a while. I'm just so glad the girls weren't there alone. Joanna's boyfriend is with them and the neighbors came over quickly to make sure the girls were okay. We had Joanna check the gas meter and the heater by the pool to smell for gas but no problem there. The epicenter was so close that the movement was very jolting so no water escaped from the pool. Joe says it's because the quakes we've felt in the past were far enough away that the earth had more of a rolling motion causing about a foot of water to flow out of the pool. With the rapid shaking it doesn't cause the water to spill out of the pool. Anyway, I'm wondering how the folks even nearer the epicenter are doing. I guess I'll check Youtube to see if there's anything reported there.

DD called to let us know about it right after it happened. They're in Fullerton, about 3 miles from the epicenter. It's the worst she's been through since moving to CA and shook her up pretty bad, physically and emotionally. Things fell out of the cupboards and a shelf fell down. DD was thankful that her hubs was home as he sometimes works nights. He was downstairs with the kids and was able to get them to a safe place. She was upstairs alone. Don't think she got much sleep last night with the aftershocks. Need to check with her today. Earthquakes are one of her biggest fears.

Didn't feel it here in Santa Ynez. This isn't a fault that you want wakened. Seems it goes through Los Angeles. We haven't really had any and it is much better to have several small shakers than one big one. Each quake feel different depending on the depth and location. Sometimes it is rolling like a wave, other times like sharp jerks. Best check the emergency supplies.

I felt it here. Hey those of us in sunny southern California should try and get together for a sewing day together. We could have our own little retreat.

I'm wondering if the aftershocks have settled down. My neighbors on the street below ours suffered drywall damage and lots of things being tossed around but no one was hurt, thank goodness. I feel bad that our daughters and our kitty are on their own without us there. I'm sure their boyfriends are keeping them company so that's some consolation.
