And another foster care adventure begins

Three beautiful children have just joined DD Bethany's family. For those of you who don't know, DD and her husband are foster parents and have had about 20 kids come through their home, including two who have become their forever children. The three new children are Zander, age 5, Alex age 4 and Mary age almost 2. Along with 2 year old Christian, there are now six children in the home all aged seven and under!

I have to change their names and can give only a little information on them, but the short story is, they were left home alone while their mother was out getting high. Zander took his brother and sister and they walked together to the police station looking for help. Yes, this is another heartbreaking story, as most of them are.

I am here asking for prayer, first and most of all. Also, if you'd like to send B an encouraging card, I can send you her address. She would be so pleased. I'd also like to know if anyone would like to make any of these children a quilt. Z and A are in regular twin beds and M is in a toddler bed. I am in the process of making C a quilt and will not be able to get to another one quite yet. We try to give each child here a quilt of his/her own. They come with almost nothing (these kids have the clothes on their backs) and it is wonderful for them to sleep under a quilt of their very own. Let me know if you're interested in making a quilt for one of the children.

Thank you for your prayers and the love you give long-distance to these children. You are so appreciated!
    Cyndi

      Cyndi,

If you wouldn't mind sending me her address I would love to send her a note of encouragement! Your post above breaks my heart. What are people thinking leaving children that age home alone? Sounds like the 5 year old knew he was doing the right thing by going to the police station.

Prayers headed to you and your family

With all that is going on Bethany and her DH still have such big hearts to take in 3 children in such need for shelter. We applaud them!!!

I can make a John Deere farm animal theme quilt for Alex if you think he would like that.

Prayers for all the children, it's truly is heartbreaking what these birthparents are doing. If you could sent Bethany's address to me that would be great. Also let me know what sizes Alex and Mary wear 'cause Ollie is in 3/2s and Penny are in 2/24 -18mos - We might have things that fit them.

Darn, I just gave away a finished quilt that would work for a boy, gave to to my church to auction off. The rest of my UFOs are girly or adult fabrics. Hope you can get quilts made for all three! Good luck, Bethany!

Cyndi - I'll send Bethany a card (have your address - or PM me with hers).

I would love to do a quilt but I have little munchkins here waiting for projects. I'd be happy to supply fabric for anyone with time to stitch. Just let me know.

Thanks, everyone. The quilts are covered for all three new children! This is such a generous place.

We've had a wonderful afternoon with them. They are kind and funny and have been playing dress up as superheroes, cars and trucks and legos. Little Mary has charmed us already with her smile and little laugh. She is a sweetie.

Bethany is afraid she is crazy but I think she is just wonderful.

Good for your daughter and her husband for taking in these kids. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, saddens me than to have to send my deputies to a call involving children, and even though I know it's better for the kids to be taken from their home, you can't help but feel bad.

Just yesterday we had to take a one year old and a two year old. Second time in a week they were found wandering at 0800. Mom was inside asleep both times! This time the officers learned she sleeps all day because she spends her nights making internet porn! I don't know if her husband is aware of this activity or not, I'd like to think he wasn't. To top it off, she rents a room to someone w/a medicinal marijuana card who doesn't hesitate to smoke that crap in the house where the kids live. It sickens me.....

Your daughter and her husband are blessings to these children. I'm sure no one on this forum can imagine how a mother could abandon their little ones. My prayers for everyone.

Just wanted to say how special you are to have raised such a child..the world is so full of this sad behavior.. addiction is a terrible thing and is making a huge hurt come into our world's children... My son's partner had a Sister that was a beautiful and smart and sweet girl that got started somehow down the wrong path.. FF she ended up killing someone in a driving accident... and being arrested for doing drugs in her own car,,, sadly to say with her child in it with her... thankfully her 2 children were raised by their grandfather,,, they feel this girl actually contributed to the death of her Mother between distraction and stress.. FF.. the kids have grown up well,,, but the Mom passed away after a surgery... she had gotten herself together after a few setbacks, but her body was just too destroyed from the abuse of drugs.... I will keep this in mind the next time I'm quilting just for the fun of it.. and try to remember to check with you to see if there is a need in you DD's house!!! Bless you all... hugs, GB
